I'll actually be brewing my brown ale Monday. Maybe bottle my ESB Saturday.
I can't think of a better gift. That is just awesome.Dude said:I'll probably be brewing Monday as well. I was supposed to yesterday but a buddy asked if I wanted to go to a Norfolk Tides game. So I did that instead.
I'm brewing the Old Leghumper Porter in my sig. It is going to get racked on top of the Pub Ale (WLP005) yeastcake.
This porter is getting brewed for a buddy of mine who is in Iraq right now. A welcome home gift, if you will.

It was in the mid seventies here and I have to work the rest of the week including the weekendDude said:Sooooo...weekday brewers...you still on?
I'm half tempted to skip brewing today and do it tomorrow instead. Looks like a better day outside, and I'm really hurting. I get off work in 3 hours (@7:30 AM) and I doubt I'm going to be coherent enough to brew.
Tuesday is supposed to be in the 70s here and I can do it early. I have to do it early cause SWMBO made a date to maybe trade in the Liberty for a Saturn Ion. I must go along to make sure we don't get screwed.![]()
Maybe I'll prep some kegs and do some brewery maintenance today instead.
Maybe I'll go shop for a new mashtun.
RichBrewer said:It was in the mid seventies here and I have to work the rest of the week including the weekendso I went ahead and brewed today. It was a nice day with no mis-haps. I missed my target OG by 1 point. It came out at 1.060.
This was going to be called Windy Winter Brown for my recipe made last winter but I think I;m going to call it Barking Dog Brown for the Fookin dog next door that kept barking the whole time I was out there. I swear it sounded like he wanted to go through the fence and attack me.
Going to go pitch some yeast.![]()
Good luck car shopping. I hate doing that. The Mash Tun sounds like much more fun.:rockin:
Brewsmith said:For a treat after moving the other night I put a bottle of my barleywine and the imperial stout in the fridge. They are really good! :rockin: The barleywine was brewed Nov. 20, and the Imp. Stout Dec. 29 so they have had a few months to age. I'm still going to let them sit through the summer, but they should be incredible then. Can't wait!![]()
I pitched a WLP002 slurry that was thicker than snot. It started chugging away in less than an hour. Now there are nice big chunks of yeast circulating around in the wort and I'm glad I installed a blow off tube. :rockin:Dude said:Sweet.
Pitching on a WLP005 slurry so I didn't even have to make a starter. :rockin:
Dude said:Oh man...by next winter those will be wonderful!
Good luck on the move. I'll do my duty and keep producing while we have a piper down. Brewer's code and all.![]()
How on earth do the yeast manage to do their thing while whirling around in the wort like that? Never ceases to amaze me.RichBrewer said:I pitched a WLP002 slurry that was thicker than snot. I love harvesting yeast for future batches. All I did on this one was to warm it up to room temp then pour off the beer before pitching. It sat in my fridge for about 3 weeks with no ill effects.
Like you said I didn't have to make a starter, it took off like a rocket, and it saved me over $6.00.
