What size mash tun

What about the igloo 54 quart rectangular? I think I like the design better. Will the 6 fewer quarts matter for 10 gallon all grain?

I use a 50qt square igloo cooler for 11g batches just fine. For high gravity beers I have to go to 1.2qt for mash ratio. Just did 28lbs. It gets full to the top. Otherwise for normal batches its fine and holds heat well. I have the white one with the recessed bottom for a drain. It originally came with no drain, but the recess is there. I notice by placing the bulkhead there, I get very little wort left in the mash tun.

I think about upgrading all the time, but it works just fine. If it were me I'd only want a few more qts of space. I'd go with the 60qt. 100qt might leave too much dead space above the mash and be prone to more temp drops.

I have a Coleman Extreme 52qt. I love it because of how the drain outlet sits lower than the level of the bottom of the cooler and is channeled down inside. I got it at Kmart.

Not trying to be rude, but there is a sticky at the top of the Equipment/Sanitation Forum titled "This is how big my mash tun needs to be." It is wonderful and will show you the gravity's you can create from the the different sized coolers. Recommend you check this out to determine what you think you will need!

I also have and recommend the coleman Xtreme brand coolers as I literally only have a cup of liquid left in the tun after a slight tilt.

Thank you, that sticky was right under my nose!

It is a nice guide but please keep in mind that there are those of us who make lots of big beers in 10 gallon batches using 10 gallon gott coolers...we just stir harder and mix at water/grain ratios of 1qt/lb or even less.

Of course, and there are also people who get higher or lower efficiency. I was trying to prevent the OP from making multiple posts asking "Should I get size X." The guide also shows you how you would make the calculations. I don't think the OP knows their efficiency yet either which is a big factor in determining the size they need.
