I'm reading a new beer book called craft brew and it mentions a new scale for malt classification by color being ERM which stands for European reference method. I tried to find on Google but didn't find anything about that. Srm is not mentioned as a scale for malt color classification either, is that normal? I believe srm is indeed used only for beer color classification while EBC is used for both. Strange... I think the brewing world should have some harmonization regarding this!

I haven't read or heard about that too. It could be possible that writer had been typed ERM instead of SRM by mistake and then an editor has added the words in parentheses!!:drunk:

I'm going to agree with HaDaL. It may be a confusion with editing a typo. If it was a European standard method, you would find it all over the place.
