I'm sure others have tried this.

I decided to use all of my leftover ingredients to make the next brew. Here they are:

1/2 lb CaraPils
1/2 lb Aromatic
1/4 lb Chocolate
7 ld liquid Amber extract
2 oz Saaz hops (60 minute)
1 oz Hallartaur (1 minute)
Octoberfest Liquid Yeast-white labs
Pilsner Liquid Yeast-white labs

The grain was crushed 30 days ago. The yeast had 1 week before "best before" date.

Since I am relying on mother nature for temperature control, the temperature ranges from 38-55 degrees (f).

My question is, what did I make? Before fermantation, it tasted really good.

Thanks!

Sounds like we have a new entry to the style guide!

Quarts of Chaos

This style is typified by it's lack of typicallity. No ingredients may be purchased expressly for the ale.

Must contain most of the following:

Specialty grains cracked over 30 days ago.

Partial bags of pale grains and/or
Leftover DME and/or
Leftover LME

Mash at whatever
Sparge until done

Misc. small quantities of hops left from other batchs

Bittering - all hops over 10 AA
Aroma - whatever smells best
Flavor - other hops from back of frig.

Some jars of stuff I think have fermentable sugars in them.

Out of date yeast or
Bottom of bottle yeast or
Washed yeast the label fell off of

At least three pints of homebrew must be consumed per person during the brewing.

Suggestions??

It also can't be a full 5 gal batch... :drunk:...the quantity should be anywhere between 1.2 and 4.3 gals.

And it has to contain at least 1/2 bottle of any brew you have open at the time of boil. :D

ha, it's funny you mentioned that. I plan to pour 1/2 a beer (Saranac Pale Ale) into my next batch (American Pale Ale) to commemorate the loss of my German bock lager (one for the homeys)... may she rest in piece (errr, should I say may THEY (the yeasties) rest in piece) :drunk:

I've actually been adding in about half a bottle of whatever homebrew I'm drinking at the time into each beer I make. Sort of making a continuous feedback loop. Of course, my beers have been getting darker and darker. I don't think I'll be putting half a brown ale into my IPA when I finally get around to doing that.
