Tampa is a festering crap-hole. It is only known for bums under bridges, t-bars and breweries. Don't judge Florida by Tampa, Jacksonville or Miami. We have a lot of armpits down here :D

Sounds like "GFB" to me. Good Florida Beer. Otherwise, good craft beer available anywhere in the US but just further away than your kitchen. :)

Congrats on quitting! I need to quit myself, any advice on the best methods folks?!

I totally agree with the other posters. You need to be ready. No one can make you ready. I smoked Marlboro Lights from October 2004- October 2013.

My parents were both heavy smokers. I started smoking in Germany, where people are a bit less judging about it. I love smoking; if I ever get diagnosed with cancer, I will definitely start again. My wife quit about a year before I did. She was on my a** about it the entire time and I tried to quit a few times.

In the end, a non-profit that helps ex-cons and rehabbed meth-heads (I live in Missouri) moved into the same office building where I work and the smoking area was filled with the sketchiest people I've ever seen. I decided that I'd rather not go outside to smoke again.

BOOM! I quit cold turkey.

The best advice I can give is to not tell people you are quitting. In my experience, people seize on it to accuse you of being irritable and end up encouraging you to smoke so you'll be nicer. You WILL be an irritable jerk when you are quitting. Something terrible will happen to you every single day and you will tell yourself that a cigarette is what you need to get over it. You'll say, "What's so awful about just 1?" Have 1 and you're back to square 1. Fight through it.

Anyhow, the feeling of need subsides after 4-6 weeks. Expect hell before that. If you make past that, you're golden. After quitting for 6 months, I can tell you there's a big difference. I feel much better. While I would love to have a smoke, I don't need one. I can go to the gas station and not buy cigarettes. There's an app called iQuit, which I liked. It tracked how long you have quit and how much cash you've saved.

Good luck!!

Vegas is Florida without the rednecks. :) I have relatives in both states that I visit several times per year and to me, it's the same. Hot, lots of tourists, nice to stay for a week or 9 days but can't wait to leave and drink waaay too much while I'm there. :D Every 3 months i can't wait to go back:)

Having my Stout of the night. Blackwater draw 'merica

Sent from the town of Rock Ridge. "Excuse me while I whip this out"

Brought a 12 oz bottle of 5 week old Texas Twang to a friends house tonight. Opened the night with it before appetizers. Wow! Very hot. Great reviews. Can't wait to bulk age and crack a bottle open in July!

Lol!! That's exactly what I tell my family in Florida and they don't believe me when they ask how it is here. "It's the same, just no beaches and more casinos."

Stay away from your triggers. If that means quitting drinking for awhile, so be it.

I quit while deployed to Afghanistan, so that meant no drinking, which was perfect, since booze was a MAJOR trigger for me. I also had to quit drinking coffee, because as soon as I took my first sip, the cravings of a cigarette became unbearable. I carried a toothbrust and toothpaste with me everywhere I went. Whenever I got a craving, I brushed my teeth, since I hated smoking after brushing my teeth. This in particular REALLY helped me fight those urges.

I quit 6 years ago.

Yup...was going to have a few more but it's just about 3am here on the east coast. Damn daylight savings. Lost an entire hour of sleep. Or drinking depending on your preferences. :D Like they say in NJ... Good night y'all.

Coffee right now, its 8:15 in the morning, heating water and setting up to brew, will be doing a toast to the brew in about 1 hour to start my mash-in.

Cheers :mug:

Coffee and soon water. Doggie (and me) needs a long long walk. Then hopefully back to brew. :D

Water as I caught up on the thread. I am kinda glad I didnt get black out drunk before noon yesterday like the rest of the town, been there done that. If you guys dont know, look up Fake patties day in urban dictionary. They describe it nicely. I did enjoy watching people stumble home all day, quite entertaining haha

Lomaland clone while mashing. This beer did not come out as good as I had anticipated. Of course, I've had beers change quite a bit over time so I pray this one gets the same treatment.
