This is my first carbed up taste of my American stout which really isn't all that American. Not nearly enough late hop character to be called American. I used some oats in it so I could technically enter it as an oatmeal stout. Of course, now that I am thinking about it I realize my mistake. I forgot to compensate for the fuller body so I used the same amount of hops I would have used for a lighter bodied beer of the same late hop character I was going for. Oh well, live and learn. It's still a great beer that I think would do well as an oatmeal stout. I think I'm going to call it Benedict Arnold's Oatmeal Stout.

Cream of 3 crops, only 6 days on gas. Still pretty cloudy and a bit tart. It looks like lemonade in the glass, tastes great (even with the tartness). I will probably add some gelatin to the keg to speed up the clarity.

Waaaaaay better on tap. The hops are far more subdued from the bottle. If you do get bottles, pour very aggressively.

:) (nods) Mmmhmmmm, I hear ya buddy. May wanna back off the 10%ers though...... :D

FWIW, it's far far far better on tap, and the guys above are right, 2Htd is a much more pleasant beverage. YMMV. :mug:

ya i need to find two hearted too if i see it there are six other beers that look better but i think i might have to just grab it now that i am hear so much good about it. ill keep it in mid if i happen to find some hop slam in bottles. i was alittle pissed because i had no head in my glass so the aroma wasnt as good as it could have been but i did get a few more ozs of some good beer so it is what it is

Worst part of this evening is that I am missing a "Yeast Series" from Mekeller at a local watering hole. 6 beers, all the same grain bill, mash temp, hop schedule. Everything the same. But they are using different yeasts for all 6 to show how yeast can change a beer. Instead the wfie and I are watching "The Bachelor". Anyone have a gun and a bullet?? Haha

Screw the bachelor. Say you need to get something from the store like milk/condoms/etc. And go try them

Last year my lhbs did that with 12 different yeast, big difference in taste

My Strawberry Blonde. 2 good homebrews followed by a crap one! :mug: At this point I think I'm just torturing myself with this beer to punish myself for failure. Hah. :cross:

That's the rule in my house, you punish yourself for making bad beer by drinking it.

Applejack

Awesome! I have a bottle of that in the cupboard. A buddy of mine bought it online. I guess its something like 6 lbs. of apples per bottle. Crazy. Its like oak aged apple brandy. Tasty stuff. Maybe I should hit that before the wife wants to watch the next episode of Bachelor hahaha :ban:

It should ease the pain. :) It's awesome stuff. Not much of it made these days though.

Actually I am trying to limit myself to not more than 6 12oz beers a week for the next 4 weeks. I need to get into a little better shape than I am. So far I've failed miserably.

Rum and coke

On that note... Anyone ever added rum soaked oak chips to a batch? I've heard of bourbon soaked, but rum is for pirates

Yeah, I did it in an imperial pumpkin ale. There was already molasses in it so I didn't pick out much rum, but it was a good beer.

Yeah, been there. I told myself "I wont drink at all in Feb, except Super Bowl, my nephews 1st bday, and maybe 2-3 other days. Yeah, as you can see that didnt happen. Death in the family, work stress, SWMBO, and life in general didnt let that happen. Or maybe it was me. Either way, life is WAY better with beer. Thats for sure. :ban:

Currently drinking my Deschutes Black Butte Porter clone. Poured it next to the real thing, and mine has a slight bit more bitterness to it. It may be due to the hop schedule or hanging out on the yeast cake for about 2 weeks too long. Either way, its pretty damn close and at 6.4% its a damn good beer. Probably one of my best all grain beers I have made yet.

Yours could be fresher, too. I can't remember if Deschutes stamps their bottles, but it's not uncommon for stock to be 3 or 4 months old on a lot of those types of beer in the stores.

Drinkin on the cheap this weekend, grabbed a Sam "hops" 12 pk, whitewater, lat 48, tasman red, dark depths, grumpy monk etc.. Nothing spectacular, but definitely a few interesting beers hiding in there.
