In celebration of National Beer Lovers Day and other made-up holidays pulled out of peoples asses, I'm drinking the last of my HB 2020 vintage Barleywine. Bottled this in March 2020. Bottled about 16 litres. The grist was 9.0 kg Maris Otter, 2.0kg Carapils, Crushed. Apollo Hops at 99 IBU, and used the beast of yeast White Labs WLP 099 Super High Gravity . The result was 11.6% ABV. I will miss this and have a tear in my eye as this ended-up tasting incredible. Will have to brew this recipe again.

Brown malt, you say? Interested to know your recipe, unless it's top secret of course.
Of course. I got the recipe from Adam Mills' youtube channel. He's the head brewer at Sonder Brewing in Ohio.

Maris Otter 75.7%
Amber Malt 6.1%
Brown Malt 6.1%
Caramunich I 6.1%
Wheat Malt 6.1%

Magnum 25 ibu at 60 mins.

US-05

This is my third time brewing this. Adam also adds coffee to his, which I tried once, but I prefer a more subtle coffee flavor, which I get using just the malts.

Last night on Cape Breton Island was crazy. Rain and 110km/h (70mph) wind gusts all night. The tiny house we were in didn't budge. But it was loud af, and we didn't get much sleep.

Working our way back today. Staying a night in a B&B in Fredericton, NB.
Will seek out a brewery for dinner and beers tonight.

For now, polishing off the last of the apple squeezins in the B&B's screened gazebo.
