Love working for the govt. Every other Friday off. We had a streak of fall going on and summer returned today. I wanted to hit Vitamin Sea for lunch but vacation travellers on the highway were horrible. Thankfully pitstop before golf No Ducks were hurt during this round of golf

My first? Schlitz!
I had my first beer the summer after 6th grade, one of my father's Stegamier beers that I snuck from the fridge. A friend and I planned to pack our lunches to eat during a hike in the woods near our houses. When we sat down under a pine tree he was surprised when I pulled a beer out of my lunchbox. We took turns drinking from the bottle, (or can?), until it was empty. Neither of us enjoyed it.

We spent 8 days in Auvergne, drank different local beers every day. That part of France has seriously upped their game since we were there 6 or 7 years ago. Every beer either of us drank was top notch, I just wish I had room in the car to bring a case or 2 back with us. There were the usual weird fruit or vegetable beers that we avoided, but the ipas, ambers and blondes were all excellent. Space requirements dictated that I choose between food(chesses, sausages, ham) or beer and the food won.

right now it's a Chimay Blue. You gotta love Trappist beers for under $2/bottle at the grocery store down the road. the most expensive, Rochefort 10, is still under $2.50. For years I've read about how the quality of Chimay has gone down, but if it has I'm still very much in love with this beer. I honestly can't remember it being significantly different 25 years ago when we were in Belgium-I loved it then, I love it now.

My HB Wheat has dropped clear. Is this considered a recipe flaw? Tastes just as good.

From a keg, so I have no real opportunity to 'rouse the yeast.'
My hefeweizen from a few months ago was delicious but the last 6-8 pints had dropped totally clear. Tasted clean but not as good as the beginning of the keg. Really does need to be drank fresh. I was too lazy to pull the keg out of the keezer to rouse the yeast.

I got a bunch of chores done today so hopefully I can brew a batch tomorrow. Thinking about an all cashmere pale ale. I’ve read conflicting opinions about how it’ll turn out, but I got a pound of the cashmere hops for free so what the heck? I also hope to keg a couple other batches I brewed a couple weeks ago.
A Banquet earlier and now this. It’s not spectacular, but ok.

Work-from-home motor pool guy for Secret Service?
He buys them at police auctions then tries to repair and sell them before he racks up enough parking tickets that the city tows them. It's nonstop entertainment over there, especially when the city shows up every 18 months or so with a parade of flat beds and all hell breaks loose.

Nice guy, just doesn't get along with the city.

Wernesgründer Pils Legende
I get those at Aldi, too. Really nice beer, especially for the price.

OT
I made some Chinese rice wine and was looking to do something with it when I'm not in the mood for the really sweet aperitif or dessert drink. I read that gin could be used as a substitute for it in cooking (sounds weird to me!) so decided to try making a cocktail. 1 part Bombay dry gin, 2 parts seltzer, 3 parts HM Chinese rice wine. I'm surprised at how much I like this. Sweet and tart are subdued, hint of juniper, floral notes. I'll have another! Now I just have to come up with a name.
