Sorry I haven't been around very much lately. My folks back in Oregon are not doing too good and I haven't been in the best mood. I've learned not to drink when I'm not in a good mood, so you haven't been seeing much of me lately.
Nevertheless, today was a pretty good day and I escaped work rather early, so I enjoyed the sunshine and a few pints.
My latest ordinary bitter. The loss of both of my LHBS in November means that I'm now dealing with an LHBS that simply doesn't sell much UK yeast, so I was lucky to grab some Ringwood. I've gotta say, I'm very pleased with Ringwood's performance. It's a lot better than I remember--of course a lot has changed since then.
Here's this year's batch of UK brown. I made a special batch of (what I'm calling) Invert #2.5 for this batch. It helped a lot. It pushes the color more that #2, but steers clear of #3/porter flavors, and it adds a bit of nuttiness. I burned my tongue to a crisp making that batch of invert. Totally worth it!
And here's the big American Stout that I made in, er, September? It's a solid reminder of why I don't brew above 1.050 much anymore. It's a nice ale, but it's plugging up one of the serving slots in my fridge. I'll be bummed when it finally kicks, but I won't miss it.

As light beers go, not bad. But I'm from Jersey and have drank more than my share of Yuengling; mostly Black & Tan.

Yeah I've had worse. I wouldn't but it but it's leftover from a party and I don't throw beer away no matter how meh it is lol

I've seen this several times on HBT and was always intrigued. It's not available anywhere near me so I was really excited to see it in my Secret Santa package! This is malty, kinda sweet and tart, nice cherry flavors, subtle spices from the Belgian yeast, 11%. This is a great beer that I may not get a chance to try again and it's delicious. Thanks @Brew_Dude41 !

My first homebrew in 10 years. Had a morebeer package get lost by FedEx, so stopped by local home brew store on a whim. 85% pale malt 15% crisp amber. Grabbed the crisp amber, having been 10 years not realizing wasn't the crystal was wanting for an Amber ale. Cascade hops. Kind of a mistake hybrid American/english pale ale. Glad I did, turned out tasting good, and made a ton of mistakes on brew day. Glad made the mistakes on a throw away recipe before got the ones planning to do from morebeer order. Put on CO2 today but had to grab one just for the taste

Anchor Steam glasses arrived!
I have one of those. I wasn’t sure what it was either. Its made to look old I guess, but not really that old. I’ve seen glasses like it for sale at Reading China and Glass. I also have a couple classic styled martini glasses I found at Goodwill that I thought were very old but really aren’t.This one is more of a “What Are You Drinking Out Of?” post.
Years ago after my grandfather had passed away and my grandmother moved in to my parents place, I acquired a set of beer glasses that were going to go away if I didn’t want them. They were my grandfathers, but were still in the original box and probably never used.
With my current move I rediscovered the box and I’ve decided to actually use them.
They are Coors glasses with an old interlocking A and C logo and A Coors signature. I’m sure these were some promotional product or giveaway with saved up proof of purchase.
They are hexagonal but have an almost faux wood texture to them. The stem is a little chunky but also hexagonal and sturdy. The glass will also produce a clear tone when you run your wet finger around the rim!
I’m guessing it’s from sometime in the 60’s. Anyone have any better idea?
My fridge is currently out of the Banquet Beer from Golden Colorado, so Chico’s finest will have to do for the inaugural beer.
I think I need to find some of the stubby bottles of Coors and recreate some ad from the 60’s!

Got home from work, and back to work in the garage, starting the clutch replacement on my wife's fun car, some liquid encouragement to help things along, probably just draining fluids for today since we have plans this afternoon. Hb Irish stout.

Something from south of the border to start tonight’s beers
One of my favourite beers from The Kernel. Hops change with every batch (ABV also varies). This particular version is single hopped with Columbus
Two of the 4 kegerator lines are empty, the other two running low.
I might have to brew a batch inspired by this next weekend (Recipe is widely available online)

Hibiscus Key Lime Sour. Very nice
Hb Irish stout, went for the nitro pour on this one, made a coolant mess in the garage as expected, they put the radiator drain cock in the dumbest effin place, whatever, it's draining and I'm walking away for today, floor dry absorbant is my friend haha..
Not now but last night. Opened a test 16oz bottle of the Black Pearl's Revenge to compare to an actual Piraat ale.
Sadly, the Piraat ale was much better than its clone. But both were good; the clone is still carbonating, but is super clear in the bottle and is very palatable even at room temperature and very little carbonation.
