what a crock

Has anyone used a slow cooker or crock pot in brewing? I know it wouldn't be ideal for the entire brew process, but I thought it might he useful for initial mashing of grains. You know, steep the grains all day and pick it up when I get home from work.

Any thoughts?

I've considered it. The volume is a little small, and the temperature isn't stable enough to mash properly.

I use a coffee maker to make starters, super easy.

A crockpot won't keep the temperature stable enough. I think they are +/- 5F.
