Weldless fittings and sealant

Has anyone had any experience using sealant around weldless fittings just as an extra protection from leaks?

Unless you are having issues with leaking there is no reason to do it. Teflon tape and that big O-ring will do all the sealing you need.

I used some food-grade aquarium silicone sealant (FDA approved etc.) that I bought from McMaster.

Edit:
Right, I only had to use a sealant because my sight glass and the O-rings that came with it didn't work quite as well as they should (William's brewing sight glass).

If you are making an order anyway you may want to look into flat silicone O-rings to help with the seal.
