can someone run this thru Beersmith and post the recipe...2 gallon batch
A light APA 2 row and a little 10 crystal in the mash. about 4.5-4.9 abv. cascade hops only
2 gallon batch all grain taste the hops but not an IPA...light apa..
I had a recipe for 1 gallon but I lost it...I think it was 1.6 ga pre boil for 1 gallon...I dont remember the amount
of malt for mashing..but the crystal goes into the mash last 10 minutes and is not much..few ounces
thanks

You are not making a lot of sense here.
What is your equipment? All grain or partial mash? I would love to help you put it through beersmith, but some more information would be usefull.

2 gallon batch all grain( line 3) I just need the mash amounts and times and temps,
I made 1 ga batches of this light apa before and it was good.
I am looking for a 1980s style apa using no 5 dry yeast Safael.Hoppy notes but not overdone like so many apa today. The APA of today hardly resembles the style 30 years a ago.
I will be mashing in a 3.5 ga pot BIAB and boiling in that same pot. Fermenter is a 5 ga glass widemouth.

Ok what got me confused was this sentence:
the crystal goes into the mash last 10 minutes and is not much..few ounces
I've never heard of late mash additions, and I doubt it will do much in just 10 minutes. Or did you mean something else?
I think it was 1.6 ga pre boil for 1 gallon...I dont remember the amount
That would mean 60 percent boiloff, which seems like a rediculous amount.

Also what kind of ibu's are you aiming for?

just forget the 60 ok...and the other stuff.. I just want the numbers

It's really hard to understand what you are saying. There are lots of free calculators out there than can help you do it yourself. I have no idea what your efficiency is, your equipment, the temperature of your grain, how much grain you will need, the percentage of grain you have for each ingredient, etc.

You could try Brewer's Friend for free, and plug your equipment in, and the amount of sparge water you need and the temperatures, etc, will all be calculated for you.

3.5 pounds of 2-row pale malt at 70% efficiency in 2 gallons (final) will give you about 4.7% abv. About 0.5 ounces at 60 minutes and 0.5 ounces at 5 minutes would give you about 30 IBU's without an overwhelming hop flavor. Not sure if this is anywhere close to what you are looking for, and I have no clue what numbers you expect people to be able to give you, but there you go.

thanks seeker that will work its about 2 times my old 1 ga recipe if I remember correctly.
One more thing... how much pre boil liquid???

For 3.5 lbs I'd guess about .12 g loss to grain (biab and squeezing) another .75 g to the boil. That's my equipment when I do 2 gal batches. I'd start w/about 2.8 g in the mash.

Boiloff is always a number, not a percentage. If you add a specific amount of BTU's it will boil off a gallon whether the batch size is one gallon or 10 gallons.

Good point, did not think of that, would it not be better to boil in a smaller pot with less surface though?

Every pot and every heat source will produce a different boil off rate. You need to know what your combination of pot and heat source will do.

For instance, same pot on a different heat source and the boil off rate will be different.
And a different pot on the same heat source will also be different.

It will also change a little due to weather. On a cold and humid day you will boil off a different amount than on a hot dry day.

you mean 2 gallons water in mash and then sparge with .8 ga?
