Tinplate containers

Can anyone think of a reason not to use tinplate cans, like the cans of popcorn you sometimes get for Christmas. I've seen them in 6.5gal size with lids. Tinplate is used in cookware and thinness would work to my benefit if I use surface mounted silicone heaters wrapped around the outside. Thoughts?

I think they would rust in a short time. Guessing they are zinc plated inside and would not hold up long.
