Anyone know any possible consequences of not having the vented cap on top of your three piece airlock? I forgot it when my beer started fermenting and want to know if I made a boo boo
 
Stuff gets in the liquid and makes it nasty looking. Not a problem unless it gets sucked back in. Use cheap vodka instead of water so at least ya know ain't nothing living in there if it does get sucked back.
 
You can put foil on it, loosely formed around the top of the airlock. Nothing to worry too much about.
