Thermostat set up

So I finally picked up a mini fridge, as well as a thermostat, and I have a few questions.

1) I bought a johnson analog thermostat for cheap and was wondering if I could just set the thermostat on top of the fridge, or if I need to mount it like it says.

2) Would it be fine to drape the sensor bulb around the fridge and inside then close the door on the cord?

1) no need to mount it. mine sits on the top.

2) yup. mine's been like that for over 5 years.
