what is it about Hanson that resonates with you
trickytunadicky ?
I did get into them as a teenager, but unlike, say, the Backstreet Boys who I pretty much stopped following after college, Hanson are roughly my age, they write their own stuff, so a lot of their lyrics have resonated with my life experiences, and they put on a really fun show. They grew up listening to the same music I did (mom and dad's classic rock and Motown collection), so they have a heavy classic rock and Motown influence. Rick Nielsen and Bun E. Carlos came and closed a show in Chicago with them once - they finaled with I Want You to Want Me. It was the same year Taylor did Tinted Windows with Bun E Carlos. (They are featured on Greetings from Bunezuela that just came out, too)
They actually got better as a band after going independent (You can look up Anthem, Shout it Out and Underneath on Spotify/ Amazon Prime / whatever your streaming of choice if curious) Plus, I tend to gravitate toward stuff I can sing along with. I gave up any illusions of "oh my god I am going to marry one!" about the time I was 17 because they are super Christian and have values that remind me a bit too much of the conservative town I grew up in (so many kids!), but they were fun to chat beer with, as despite putting out a mass market Pale Ale that would be right at home as any restaurant's house beer, two of them are quite into craft beer and cocktails. They like Three Floyds a lot. Zac is an ace at in person trolling, which is hilarious to watch at the resort events. How I got to see them so many times is they play double shows in Chicago whenever they tour and the set list is significantly different each night (they change maybe 10% on a given night, but for the double shows it's like 40%), so I have always gotten tickets to both. They aren't expensive shows. Then in 2014 I found a friend to start rooming together with at the resort shows, so that's another 6 shows bundled, and once I had a buddy to travel with that was there for the music, we decided to hit 2 cities on the tour they did last year, which every city was a double show. Had a blast. I have more vacation time now, so we'll see how much damage I will do when they world tour next year.
tl;dr: I like their style of music, they put on good shows and they are the kind of people I would want to hang out with at a party, but that's it.
