similarly to Raised Grain near me

These guys need to lower their price point. Their beer is good, but nothing to get too worked up about. But it's noticeably more expensive than other stuff on the shelf of similar quality/variety. I like the idea of "buy local" but not at a considerable markup.

Maybe their supply chain sucks... or they're trying to pay off the loan faster on the state of the art 100bbl system they just put in.

Yeah, their beer isn't bad but it's nothing worth clamoring over... similarly to Raised Grain near me. I just don't get excited about breweries that produce exclusively your run-of-the-mill early 2000's flagship styles... ambers, browns, hefes. The market is already super saturated and increasing capacity/expanding to other markets seems short sighted. Hopefully, the larger pilot brewing capacity will afford some people on their team the freedom to experiment and create something outside the realm of average... brut ipa is not a good start... amirite?!?

generally agree with you here. i'm not super wacky about going to a new place, popping in to a bar and seeing IPA, AMBER, PALE, BROWN and nothing else.

there's a bit of hometown pride at play. they're definitely the best in town (though Noble Roots is pretty good, too)... and they're priced right.

i'm not really much for chasing the newest thing. if i want an IPA i'll go Two Hearted, or Green Chop. if i want a stout it's Badger State Dubious Ruffian, Lagunitas Imp Stout or Potosi Shot Tower (though, this is my favorite style so i'll go for Speedway, Ten Fidy, Expedition, etc. etc.)

i don't need the wacky new styles. the experimental beers. the newest, most expensively marketed, trendiest beer. just want to drink things i like.

and, i think, their market expansion is strictly in Wisconsin. they sell like ******* bananas in Green Bay. they're expanding to markets within Wisconsin where people know them.. not sending to South Carolina and Oregon in hopes of finding success.

I'm not normally a big fan of "flavored" beers, but I really liked their Chile Gordo (smoked porter with jalapenos), Cinnaster (Scotch ale with cinnamon), and Buzzy Badger (coffee brown ale).

Dubious Ruffian is the best of their regular lineup, and some of the variants I've had at the tap room have been good, too.

The Pils, Red Ale, Brown Ale, and Wit are all OK.

I can't get past the onion flavor I pick up in Green Chop, though, and Mangotopia was an abomination (to me). I think I drank 2 of the 4 pack I bought, but I might have drain poured the last one.

It’s a milestone day for us at the brewery- Our canning line just took it’s maiden run on our newly crafted Unsettled! It’s a New England style India Pale Ale that will begin hitting select markets throughout October. Grab a six-pack and share the excitement! #unsettled

they're also dropping a canned kettle sour at the River Run in October

"Speaking of SWAG, in the years past you have taken home an exclusive bottle of Central Waters River Run beer. When we opened registration this year, we had no idea that they would be installing a new CANNING LINE! They haven’t even released cans of their beer through their distributors yet, but they are going to for you. This year, your commemorative beer is going to be a 16oz. can of a kettle aged sour with raspberries and mangos. It is so delicious, we can’t wait for you to try it. And you get to be some of the very first people to get a CAN from Central Waters."

New Thumbprint from New Glarus

New Glarus Brewing said:
Dive into the deep cocoa magic that is our Chocolate Stout. Rich fudgy notes layered with English Dark Crystal malt and smoothed by contributions from Wisconsin bovines. Brewmaster Dan artfully blends American and Alsatian hops creating an aromatic delight. Best served at 48 degrees F. Melt into our passionate indulgence and linger in the moment.

Edit: Also, Uff-Da and Fat Squirrel returning.

Anybody else make Black Gold this weekend? We rolled in at 2 and it was perfect. No waiting for anything. Wasn’t busy at all. Such a much better experience than XX.
We were there. Another well run event. It seems like they get more and more runners every year. Good for them.

Headed out a little early so we could head to Stevens Point to watch the baseball game.

And BG tastes awesome as always.

was there. ran the race. ducked out straight afterwards due to dad obligations.

the number of people there at 9 AM who were clearly not running/walking was really surprising. they were apparently trying to beat a rush that did not exist.

i will say, this is a clever way to raise funds for the Jensen Center. releasing Black Gold on that day is sure to draw lots of people who want the beer but to get the beer you have to pay for the run or walk.

the first year i did the run (.........several...... years ago) i think there were something like 100 people total running & walking. didn't look at the results but there had to be 4x that many this year.

Yep. This year you don't need to buy a ticket if you don't want to ... you can just show up and pay $2 per sample.

$30 ticket gets you in an hour early, and includes 15 samples.

oh boy
well, decision time
