Yes, in Boston Tues-Thurs and then to VT so I figured going Thursday from Boston to Treehouse then to VT is easier than a round-trip to Treehouse on Wednesday. So I'd be coming from Treehouse to VT guessing I'd come up 91 through Brattleboro, Walpole, Hartford, Montpelier...

if you want to eat early... I suggest Armsby Abbey on the way from Boston to TH

otherwise, you can take a little detour off of 91 and eat at Worthy Burger... or Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier right off of 89

just remember kitchens close in Waterbury by 10pm the latest

Armsby is an awesome spot. BT's Smokehouse is also on the way to Treehouse from Boston, great ribs.

Thanks, had Armsby Abbey on the list but we may be passing that area before 5 and may be a bit early so was curious if there was anything in southern vermont worth stopping by. If not I'll probably adjust the schedule to accommodate Armsby or get to Montpelier earlier.

Anyone been to Foam yet? One of my friends in Burlington just posted a picture on Instagram that looked positively turbid and juicy AF

Stopped by today. Beers are tasty, definitely worth checking out. We will stop back again soon.

Place should be awesome in the summer time being right on the lake.

can anyone in here who has done some simple hikes in the vt area, gonna be up end of june and I'm sure the wife would like to go on a hike, we were in vt a few years ago with the kid at time, this time will be just us,
looking for a serious recommendation for an easy hike 1-2 hrs if this is even possible

last time up we just drove around some serious winding roads in the mountains and walked around a stream ( i was seriously unprepared)

any help is greatly appreciated

Advice I have from just visiting is stick to hikes labeled "Easy". My wife and I are very active and love hiking and found the moderate ones fairly challenging. If you are staying in the area ask the hotel. We got a good list from them that we enjoyed both of (although the second we took a wrong turn and didn't get the payoff in the end).

Let me see if I can find the sheet they gave us to up load it.

Hey guys, looking to visit the VT area in mid August. Any camping suggestions near Burlington VT area? I would like to get a little ways from the city so we can see the stars at night.

I camp at Elmore every year, which is a few miles outside Morristown. Not terribly close to Burlington but serves as a nice midway point between the Burlington stuff, Waterbury, warren and Greensboro. Nice little beach there too!

Little River is nice if you're looking for somewhere close to Waterbury. It's a 10-15 minute drive and about 30-40 minutes from Burlington.

Fwiw the moderate hike was fairly steep but well worth it... took us just under 3 hrs round trip and we were moving pretty quick but did stop at the top for a good 40 min.QUOTE]

which hike was this?

I'm looking for a fairly easy one that is ~2 hours rt[

Hey everybody, just read up on this thread in preparation for doing a trip up to VT from Pittsburgh June 8-10. Figured I'd post my token "coming to VT" message to see if you all would be willing to provide any guidance.

Old Stagecoach Inn was booked for one of the nights, so I decided I'd probably go with an AirBnB for 2 nights, which is right across from Hen of the Wood. I'll drive up Wednesday, grab dinner & drinks at Pro Pig/Blackback/Reservoir. Get breakfast at Stagecoach on Thurs morning, try to chase a couple Lawsons and Alchemist deliveries. It looks like Hunger Mountain gets both on Thursdays? Maybe try to go to one more place that gets SoS, then head to HF. Spend the 2nd night in Waterbury again and check out more of the 3 main pubs for beers/dinner.

I'd love to bring some Heady back, but my priority would be on SoS if I had to choose one (hoping for both). Also would love to get some Fiddlehead, but probably not driving to Burlington on this visit.

So mainly I was wondering if you all have any advice on this plan. Is it worth it to stay in Waterbury both nights? Should I try to stay a night in Montpelier and get to Three Penny Taproom? Anything else I'm potentially missing out on?

When trying to get deliveries of Heady/Lawson's, do you generally want to show up at the store when they open?

Thanks for any and all help! Cheers!

Yes

Should I try to stay a night in Montpelier and get to Three Penny Taproom?
No. Or at least, I wouldn't. Definitely check out Three Penny Taproom at some point, it's a fantastic spot. Mad Taco is a great food and beer option as well. If I were going to stay elsewhere for a night it would be Burlington/Winooski.

The rest of the state of Vermont? Notably the Burlington area.

But as far as beer/food stops in the areas you've said you're going to, I'd say Parker Pie Company and Doc Pond's. Parker Pie is probably my "must hit" place for the state of Vermont. Hen of the Wood, obviously... though a reservation might not be an option at this point.

You should have good luck with Heady/Sos in Waterbury on Wednesday. No need to get anywhere when they open unless they're selling a full case per person.

Thanks for the response!

Parker Pie could definitely be a possibility after HF. I do get to Burlington every so often, and love it, so that was the only reason for leaving it out of this trip, not that I don't want to go to that area.
As for the rest of the state... I guess I'll just try to keep chipping away at it. :)

EDIT: The screen name is awesome btw. One of my favorite authors.

Cheers to the suggestions on this page. Vacation has been a hit so far. Parker Pie Green Mountain Special & Double Galaxy was a great lunch. Did on-site bottles of 6 years & CD7 at HF. Sampler at Lost Nation. Chocolates at Laughing Moon. Dinner at Hen of the Wood was as good as anything I've had in Chicago. Beautiful space as well. Rabbit was fantastic & vegetables were so fresh. Short pours at Pro Pig were perfect as was Heady on tap & SoS on tap at Hen & Blackback. The myth of Focal lives on as I've been told it has dried up everywhere. Maybe Old Stagecoach will have some this morning. I've got 1 more hour until Huevos.

Stagecoach typically does, BUT so does everywhere else around town. Maybe you'll get lucky though. You're doing this trip right sir. Glad you're enjoying yourself!

check Doc Ponds in Stowe for Focal as well

Last delivery was three weeks ago, I'd be shocked if doc ponds still had some. Your only bet is finding it at some place that doesn't get many beer geeks, but I'm pessimistic there's any in the wild anymore.

ah... well there it is... I had some on 5/26 but I'm guessing that's in tune with the 3 week window

full disclosure...I wiped out most of the old stagecoach stock well over a week ago. there were only a handful of cans left that are no doubt gone now.

Found a few Focals left at the bar of the Best Western 2 days ago.

Healthy Living in S. Burlington dropped Heady and Lawson's at 5pm on Wednesday. Great store and staff too.
