I like to BBQ.
I smoke my meats on a Webber Smokey mountain. Maybe a summer TB BBQ bottle share is in order? Who's in? My place up here in the cold north of the wall. Maybe late June or Mid July? I'll smoke the meat yinz bring sides?

Not for bottleshares per se, but I love cooking for "beer" gatherings and even trying to do food and beer pairings.

It just seemed to be the natural evolution of liking to drink beer, eat food, and to cook haha.

Plus it allows me the opportunity to empty my fridge of all the beer that I've been saving.

Bottle shares at my place are very comfortable and just a good reason to get together, eat, and drink. I'm sure folks here could attest to that I think...

+1 on the Weber Smokey Mountain...

Heading to Chicago now, anyone been recently have any good beer/food recommendations?

Was thinking about hitting up Band of Bohemia (1st brewpub to get a Michelin star last year).... may try to hunt down some HalfAcre/Pipeworks/Revolution.

Burger at Au Cheval
If you're into metal, Kuma's Corner is an essential burger spot. Not on the level of Au Cheval but good food and awesome environment
Publican for meat and beer
Hopleaf is great for both beer and food
Map Room and Local Option are both cool bars
Half Acre and Revolution were both fun, nothing amazing on tap when I was out there but worth the time to stop in.
Binny's in Lincoln Park has a tasting bar that had a good taplist when I was there, worth hitting if you wanted to look for any bottles while you're in town (their spirits selection is extensive as well)

  • If the Cubs are in town, go to Wrigleyville and bum around the ****** bars.
  • Check out Safehouse (google it to prepare yourself)
  • For pizza, I really liked Pequod's. There is a bar next door called Drinkingbird that is pretty damn good. Get a drink while you wait to get sat (which may take a while on a Fri / Sat night)
  • You should go to Portillo's at least once - bring an antacid...
  • The two tiki bars are great, if you like that scene: Three Dots and Dash, and Lost Lake.

1. Get a good buzz at one of the aforementioned establishments;
2. Go to The Weiner's Circle Late at night;
3. Ask for a chocolate shake.

Good recommendations. I visited Chicago on a quick trip a couple of weeks ago over Memorial Day weekend. I'll add a couple of things I enjoyed, plus a lil' commentary on the places I visited...

BEER:

- Piece in Wicker Park has some pretty good pizza and a classic brewpub mix of a range of styles; bustling place, fun to hang in a small group.
- Local Option in Wicker Park had far and away the best beer lineup of any place I visited, with lots of beer nerd gems and a wide array of styles; small interior and a casual college pub vibe, and the place was dead when I visited on a Monday night. Service was kind of surly (some might find this "charming", and it seems to fit with their vibe, but I'm kind of over that style), but the beers were absolutely top-notch; my big revelation from the trip was trying some fantastic beers from Scratch Brewing in southern Illinois, and Local Option is evidently the only place in Chicago that regularly gets their beers on draft.
- The Map Room in Wicker Park/Bucktown is a classic, with a classic/old-school beer list of nice beers, but they frankly have not kept up with the current climate of beer nerdery. They have a well-rounded beer list of good-to-great beers, all, and it's a comfortable place to drink, but it seems like they don't really put in any effort to stay current with lesser-known brewers.
- Delilah's in Lincoln Park is an awesome, divey whiskey bar with an incredible bourbon/scotch selection and some good berrs. A local institution, and it'll always be on my must-visit list.
- Link's Taproom in Wicker Park was a great place, more modern than most of these other beer spots, with a casual vibe and great list of beers. More polish than Local Option, and more accessible (about a half-block off a Blue line stop).

FOOD:

- Lula Cafe in Logan Square served up a great breakfast-- farm-to-table "New American" food with good pastries, coffee, everything... if you're in the area or traveling along the Blue line. Probably my best meal in town.
- The Roister in Fulton Market was a good meal, and the easiest reservation for us to get among the Alinea Group destinations. It was a bit expensive, but the food was good, and it's a beautiful, sleek but casual space with an open kitchen. I'd go back, but I'd probably jump on another experience in the Alinea Group first, like even trying my fate with walk-ins at Aviary or some ****.
- Little Goat Diner in West Loop was a really good meal in a casual diner setting, bustling place in a bustling area; Bull's Eye French Toast was great. I'd go back for some grub, with a main draw being the whole area, which has probably another dozen+ happening restaurants and bars (including Au Cheval) within like a two-block radius. Could certainly spend a whole night just walking that area on a good crawl, and I'm sure many do.
- Scofflaw in Logan Square had some very good cocktails in a rustic "shabby chic" bar with cool ambiance and good food coming out of the kitchen-- cheese and charcuterie, solid burger, nice-looking New American grub with reasonable prices. I stumbled upon a Surly tap takeover and had some great beers on their limited (8-handle?) draft beer list, but it looks like they care, and get pretty good stuff on the regular.
- Pizza. Yeah, I ate too much of it, including a few places I'd never tried before (Pizano's, Piece) even though I lived in Chicago for 5 years. I'm still a sucker for Giordano's spinach pie.

Also drank some Revolution Anti-Hero IPA and Rev Pils, as well as Half Acre Daisy Cutter Pale Ale at many random touristy spots throughout town. One great thing about Chicago that has changed in the last 10+ years since I lived there is that the baseline standard for decent craft beer has raised significantly. These beers are *everywhere*, so you should never drink anything worse. They even have Toppling Goliath PseudoSue at the Field Museum now (which I didn't try-- no idea if it's the contract-brewed stuff or the genuine article).

Have fun and enjoy the plenitude of wonderful food and drink in an amazing city. I can't wait for my next trip back.

Because apparently half the beer industry are closet beer nerds that hang out in janky facebook groups...you may want to hit up Revolution...

Just a heads up, at Revolution we are down to our last 8 bottles of 2017 Straight Jacket. I'm sure there are still shops with a portion of a case sitting around, but they are nearly gone here. Because we love having SJ available, we are going to pull the majority of our 2015 Straight Jacket out of the library (30ish cases) and put them for sale at the Tap Room and Brewpub this week. They will be $18 and have been stored cold since the Jan '15 release.
