Okay San Diegans, the wife and I are headed your way for a bit of a vacation. We'll be there Monday night. We're staying in Oceanside, but will be all over the place during the day. If you see a fat, middle aged couple in Final Gravity Taproom gear, hit us up! We'll be traveling with goodies of the beer variety.

We hope to run into some of you cats!

Cheers.

We hit Slaters 50/50, Cathedral Alehouse, Phantom Carriage and Noble on the way down. Headed over to Bagby for some beers now.

Met some rad folks at Noble and exchanged some beers.

Tomorrow is Societe in the morning, Ironfire in the afternoon, then who the **** knows in the evening.

Let's do this!

Plenty to do in Oceanside these days: Bagby of course but also Local Tap House, Barrel Republic, Urge/101 Proof, The Flying Pig, Breakwater, Pacific Coast House (PCH), Surfside Tap Room. Coffee at Revolution Roasters, breakfast at Beach Break or Swami's Cafe.

I haven't been yet but I've heard the new Urge Common House is impressive.

Noted. Thank you my man! Will report back.

I did the math on a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale at Barrel Republic on time. I have never been back.

I've never liked that beer. I probably have posts in here saying the same. I am also sensitive to diacetyl. I really don't think that's it though. I've been finding more and more Mosaic beers giving me that "buttery" flavor. I've basically sworn off Mosaic focussed beers. Almost every single time I think a beer I think tastes like diacetyl I check the hop profile and it has Mosaic. Dissolved Oxygen in a growler, Crowler, canning line can really bring that out too. Diacetyl is too much an amateur problem for the likes of AleSmith.

Edit: My checkin from January 2015: "Malty and a little diacytel. I do not get the hype behind this beer."

I've had it on tap at the source, which is idea but not ideal, as most of that beer won't be that good. I had a few cans at a party and it did have a weird butter note. I'm no sisserone, so not sure if it was THE D or my similar reaction to certain mosaic beers. I can't find the hop bill for this beer, but I think it's just not for me. I prefer X, as it's a bit less sweet. With all that said, I'll never pass up a can if someone gives me one, I just think it's more gimmick than anything.

(ok, that editting took a lot longer than I had figured it would) But yes, I think that is the next can. I wasn't particularly thrilled with the color of the can, but meh...all that matters is what is inside of it.

Liked for this. Would give more likes if possible.

Mikkeller Viking Club opened back up yesterday, anyone here join? I signed up for the Tier 2 membership, my first membership anywhere. Thoughts on the club from 2016? Hope to see/meet some of you at events.

(A lack of funds kept it from happening sooner (so maybe Thornton would benefit from employing a little more capitalism.)

What does this even mean?
Not to defend the writing (which is fairly mediocre), but it's referencing this, from earlier in the article:
westcoastersd said:
the brewery and tasting room are a product of passion versus capitalist aspirations.

That read, though was not actually represented as such, as a quote or sentiment from the owners.

Won't lie, I wasn't going to renew as 2017 was rolling around. Despite it being on my drive to and from Alesmith I rarely stopped there to even take advantage of my membership. The can releases and having online presence from the girl running the membership changed that quickly.

I rejoined but remained at the low regular tier...too many memberships to spend more money on what I felt was just not worth it to me.

So enjoyable, events are fun, can releases were great since that brought a small group of us to try and buy if we liked every friday after work and then to Alesmith for a few beers afterwards.

So prior to 2017, 2/10.....now 7-8/10.

Good to hear. I've been enjoying the majority of their can releases but the convenience of being able to grab them on Fridays was a nice selling point. And I was intrigued at the special growler fills, too. Super jealous of that perk for MT League members! Guess we'll see how it all plays out since I don't think that was included in the membership last year. Not from what I was told by anyone, anyway.

I feel like I heard/read somewhere that membership would also allow for can release purchases online w/ pick up at the brewery. Do you happen to know if that's true? I sent them an email with some more questions, I'll post their reply when I get it.

As of right now no. They are not doing brewery pickup yet for things purchased online. They are working on it as a priority, but due to staff size it wasn't feasible for them. That was the last information we got yesterday actually. We were having a nice discussion in the FB group about it.

Ah, thanks for the info. Haven't gotten anything from them yet other than a confirmation of payment for the membership. I assume more will follow once the dust settles from the sale.

Yeah, it all comes down to a single person handling about 4 different jobs and 1 of those jobs being managing beer nerds. Eventually if you are on FB you will get added to the group there where Mikkeller/she-that-runs-it is always willing to answer questions.

That, and I think technically your membership starts May 1st...but I could be wrong on that date.

That blows my mind, I'm still waiting for my kickstarter reward for backing the first tasting room! Apparently, I'm in the only reward tier that never received a thing.

And that grammar is ******* offensive, I not the greatest, but close your parenthesis and hire an editor that can read.

My email, her response:

When does it take effect?
When are the special growler fills available and which beers can be filled?
Are the only beers available for pick up in store the member bottles, or will the weekly releases also be available for online purchase and pick up in store?

Your membership takes effect as soon as you paid. Just show your paid PayPal invoice until the membership cards come. The special growler fills have not been announced yet.
There are no web pick ups. There will be an email sent out shortly.
