Is it weird that I am borderline offended that I just don't see any SD beer get on that hype train? I know it's stupid, but BA Viet / Rye Viet should be a beer that people are going after... and there's just nothing. No one cares.

There's a few Modern Times BA beers that people would lose their **** over... if they came out of some obscure midwest brewery.

100% agree, both Alesmith and MT have put out a couple of god tier beers (and a lot of beers a step below god tier but still awesome) over the past couple years with minimal interest from outside of San Diego. BAVSS, BA Olde Ale '14, Barbados Rum MP w/ Coconut & Vanilla...slap another label on those and they'd be fetching a king's ransom.

Part of me is offended because I'd like to see our local breweries get their due credit for absolutely crushing it, but part of me is selfishly glad that these beers fly under the radar. I have zero interest in trading, and both I and the friends I drink with enjoy these beers, so it's nice to be able to acquire them with a minimum of hassle.

Absolutely - I'm content to drink these beers. But I also like trying lots of other stuff, and it seems absurd that I can't trade any of these off. I'm wondering if we tend to make them in higher quantities, and without the line ******** that other people go through - this is just driving their value down.

I hate beer sometimes.

I absolutely believe that this is part of the "problem."

I mean, in most of the ISO:FT posts, people will post:
-2 bottle per person
-500 bottle count
-Line started the night before

I too gave up on trading after giving up too much Alesmith or Modern Times to chase down the latest offering from another geographic area just to realize that every beer I gave up was better than the "prize." There are definitely some exceptions, but for most part this has been the case.

Few thoughts:

1) Rye BAVSS is supahotfire. I don't understand how AleSmith has such commanding control of that beer. Ridiculous.

2) b3 DDG is mediocre teetering on bad. I get no depth of funk on it, just a lot of tart dryness. If I blind tasted it, I might have assumed it's an Almanac sour.

3) Pizza Port Solana IPA is ******* great. Really bitchslaps my hazy sensibilities down to earth.

Agreed, easy 4.75 beer for me. Between that and the cask of 2014 BA Olde Ale, Alesmith gave me some serious mouthgasm action today.

Chock Full O' Nuts Speedway was surpisingly good, too. I've always thought Speedway was a great canvas for adjuncts but it's impressive to throw **** coffee at it and still end up with a good result.

Total ******* garbage. I'd love to hear what drunk Tomme or waterboarded Tomme thinks about it.
