Comic Con is great for many reasons, one of which is that I get to go drink downtown. Hit up Bell Marker today. Beer I had was not good, but the pizza sure was. Also hit Chee Chee (dive bar) and El dorado.

The cocktail game at El Dorado is stunning. I feel bad for never going here. I went last night and I'm here now.

El Dorado rules. Don't go there nearly enough. Had my first Pappy there for my birthday many years ago.

Normally I'd agree, but the traffic getting home today was the worst I've had in years, so I'm going to conveniently use SDCC as a scapegoat and redirect all my rage there.

Picked up some friends at Bottlecraft in Little Italy and drove back to Canada de San Diego. It took way longer than normal. I also blame horses. But got to drink Bourbon OE. Also, tried the Newtopia cider, didn't know it was dry hopped with Mosaic, it was super awesome.

NPBC's Comic Con beer has spread a bit further than our local sphere. Even if I'm not a huge fan of glitter in beer and joke about it being the downfall of humanity, the (seemingly serious) pearl-clutching is absurdly hilarious, especially the guy commenting that he's worried for the soul of brewing. Ignore everything Kelsey achieved as a homebrewer and how much of NPBC's focus is rooted in flawless execution of classic styles - adding glitter and activated charcoal to one beer is an obvious sign of an industry in decline.

Beyond the cosmetic effects of activated charcoal in beer, it's pretty important to note the risks due to the absorbent qualities of the additive. Doctors have advised that it may render prescription meds and even birth control less effective due to those qualities. I mean, it's a small, probably negligent risk, but it's still something to take into consideration.

Either way, that was a stupid article that's clearly meant to get attention and clicks.

Just what we need.. a bunch of comic book-and-beer nerds coming off of their meds and awkwardly getting each other pregnant. This isn't the sign of an industry in decline-- it's the latest step towards the downfall of Western Civilization.

Thanks a lot, Kelsey. Now I gotta wait at least 9 months before having the next Woodshop.

He said somewhere on the facebooks that they’re informing people when they order, which I appreciate. I had it on Saturday with no knowledge that it could impact medications (birth control, etc.). I wish I would have known prior. And who knows if it’s coincidental or not, but I didn’t feel amazing afterwards.

And yes, that article is dumb. He’s making amazing beer, this is one damn keg. FFS!

Pretty sure alcohol in general makes meds less effective.
I only use charcoal to grill with. But I'm sure none of it is in my food, inhaled or eaten.

You're so getting knocked up.

The NPBC baby boom will be studied by researchers for years.

If you plan on picking up PP Executive Member 6 packs do it early....less than 20 cases per spot except for San Clemente
What's the verdict on those cans?

Stopped by BLAH last night for a HPB tap takeover. They have a Brut Pilsner on tap from them that's incredible.

It's Comic-Con week, which means I will be drunk Downtown Wed-Sun. Any interesting places open this past year that I should know of?

New Amplified opened tonignt! 1429 Island Ave. The old Stella Public House. Full liqour license. 30 taps. Mostly the same food menu as PB. First draft of the cocktail menu curated by yours truly featuring 8 local distilleries.

Sounds awesome! Had buddy in town that wanted to go to Pure but I mentioned Amplified next door and he had fun drinking some west coast IPA while jamming to some metal.
