The Beer Company had mediocre beer at best. Sad the new spot will have an association with Golden Road, but the brewer Noah did some great things at PPSC. Stopped in a Hollister Brewing a few years ago and it was a disappointment for the most part.

Is he still with Golden Road? I thought he cashed out. I don't see Golden Road or anything crafty on tap at Mohawk or Tony's Darts right now.
 
I just opened a can of Nitro Black House Cold Brew Coffee that's a couple months old, and it's unbearably sour - like, lactic acid, tingly feeling in the back of your throat sour. Anybody possibly know what might have happened here?

It wasn't pasteurized so there might have been some bacteria present that took time to develop in the can?

Modern Times has posted that because the cans aren't pasteurized, they need to stay refrigerated and should be consumed within ... I forget the exact timeline but I think it was like 60 days.

Not sure how the "nitro gimmick" would play into that.

Possibly it is less sanitary than normal? Hard to say as we don't know their process. But good to know they state they are non pasteurized and have an expiration date.

I believe they set the best by date at 120 days but I'm not 100% on that. I know Steven posted it in the BA thread when they released the BA cold brew.

It's definitely less sanitary since coffee beans are inherently dirty (in a bacterial sense), there's no fermentation to inhibit bacterial growth, and the end product isn't pasteurized. Their process (roughly) is that they cold brew at 38*, package, then store the cans cold including during the delivery and retail phases. They make every effort to maintain a temperature that will prevent spoilage. I rarely buy packaged cold brew so I have no idea how long the cans generally last under ideal conditions but it's definitely not something you would want to age or store warm.

arren - was it stored cold the whole time? If so, I'd shoot MT an email letting them know. They'll likely be happy to make things right with you and even if you don't want anything out of it, it will help them refine their processes.

Edit: I checked over on BA and their suggestion is in fact 120 days.

Did you email them? I am curious what they say. I am also curious of the BA cans I have and how long they will last. Not too mention those nitro cans are sitting on shelves err where...

Because most of my sodas are citrus and fruit based the taste like a Mike's hard lemonade once they go bad. Not surprised the coffee would taste unpleasant with fermentation.

Speaking of, I have more of those Superstition swing-top bottles that have since been drained of its fine contents and then cleaned if you want/need more.

Ah, that'd probably do it. My sole can was fridge-stored until a week ago when I cleaned out the fridge - since then it was sitting in the corner of our living room. Though it's pretty crazy that just 7 days would transform it like that. The "best by" date on the bottom of the can says it would be good til 9/12.

Yeah, that's my concern too - I've seen those nitro cans turd it up.

I'll shoot them an email and let them know.
 
WHY ARE BREWERIES RENAMING BEERS INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON MAKING GOOD BEERS? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It was a joke, lol. There's no Metallica beer (as far as I know), but thought that style of beer would fit the song name for my favorite Metallica song given how it destroys your body with every sip. It is probably the worst beer I've had.

Trader Joe's sells cans of cold brew coffee that sit warm in the store. Why do those not spoil?
