I went to Stone fest 3-11, it as a ritual for my cousin and I to go every year.

I remember the first year, reading that it'll "only" be ten 4oz pours, "****, that's only two 22oz bottles each, and it's a 4hr event." So we drank a fifth of Crown Royal before showing up.
Boy that was a mistake.

Ah, the late-90's.

HAHAHH!!!

Still have never gone to a Stone Anniversary event. There's just something about San Marcos in the middle of summer that makes me say, "Oh **** that ****"

San Marcos forecast is mid to high 70s for the next 10 days. What temp exactly are you comfortable at?

Which is glorious, the 103F last year at 4pm was rough.

Screw you guys. Heat index of 136 today. Every ten seconds your wiping off a layer of sweat from your head and slinging it on the ground. And I thought DC humidity was bad.

This is why I am glad I switched projects. My responsibilities were to install antennas...in August...in Saudi...with no MT cans. Nope

Got a bachelor party in San Diego Sept 14-17 I'm helping plan some stuff out for.

Nothing booked yet so unfortunately no guidance on area but looking for some tips.

Only two things mentioned are a hike one day and some brewery tours the other. Any help is appreciated.

Edit: Bit more guidance. Not everyone will be beer people so good tap rooms valued probably over whatever the hottest beer is but if there's a place with great stuff I should make an effort to get to I can tie it in. The group enjoys beer enough that they will be ok with it.

How big of a group? Some tasting rooms are more sensitive to bigger groups cruising in, so suggestions for 6 - 8 might be different than suggestions for a group of 20.

Probably better off going to brewpub like places then. Urge, North Park Beer Co, Rip Current North Park, Toronado, Tiger!Tiger!, Alesmith, Quad Alehouse etc

Where is that link for restaurants in tasting rooms in San Diego?

Alternatively, what's the best combo of beer selection and food if we are staying in the Hillcrest area?

If you have a DD or hiring a driving company Mirmar would make for a great beer day (Alesmith, Amplified, Pure Project, Green Flash, + lots more). If looking for drunken stumbling then top picks would be North Park followed by Ocean Beach.

Hiking wise, i honestly don't enjoy San Diego hiking overall. All dessert and rocks. Suggestions would be Stonewall and then hitting Alpine pub, or walking Sunset Cliffs and hitting up OB after ( least spot for sunsets, plus sneaking a can or two isn't hard. Also there is more seclusive hiking/paths at the most southern part of Sunset Cliffs Blvd). Another good coastal hile is Torrey Pines. There are trails that lead to the ocean for a fun day at the beach (secluded so a beer or two discreetly is fine), finding a good place to park just usually sucks.

The reason i mention drinking discreetly is drinking in parks and beaches is prohibited and you can face large fines. At remote places you should be good, but don't try at Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, La Jolla, or Missing Beach.

Side note: A group of twelve at Amplified is a bit ambitious depending on timing, a group of twelve is pretty much impossible at Pure Project regardless of the timing.

Agree with all this, especially the hiking. Torrey Pikes is a pretty amazing hike, I would definitely recommend that - and if you want to hit up a great place for lunch, Karl Strauss in Sorrento Valley is a great option. It's not in the most scenic area, but they do have a Japanese garden - and the food and drink are very very bomb.

If you want to do a brewery tour, it's honestly hard to beat Stone. They got their **** together - but they're also kind of in the middle of nowhere.

If you want a nice middle-ground, Stone in Liberty Station is a great place to hang out - and Liberty Station in general is a unique part of San Diego as well, an old section of naval base taken over by retail stores. The Public Market there is pretty rad, and features a cool bottle shop/beer bar called Bottlecraft.

One of the best, least-known parts of Liberty Station is that you actually can drink at the parks there, as long as you get a permit - and it's fairly hassle-free to get one.

Balboa Park is a great place to explore and sight-see as well - it's right next to the zoo and contains some awesome architectural stuff. It's also one of the few parks where you can drink (albeit only out of cans) on certain parts of the grass, and it also contains a great restaurant/bar called Panama 66.

^ Excellent advice.

You need a permit to drink at liberty?

Damn, lol

Yeah, that's news to me. Can't say I have ever been asked to disperse or toss it out when I would drink in the park area behind stone while going for a casual stroll.
Eh, that seems borderline, but I was more referring to the parks proper, e.g. where the playgrounds are, close to the river.

"California Wild Ales operates a members-only club called The Funky Bunch that provides priority access to beers in exchange for an annual fee. The company will also keg some of their beers with plans to sell them to local accounts before the end of the month."

You mean the membership they started selling and taking peoples money for over 2 years ago and have yet to deliver anything? That one?

You really gotta stay current man, it was either 2 or 3 bottles given to their members already.
