Probably because they like selling beer. Did you expect them to dedicate new capacity to brewing weizenbocks and malty amber ales?
I mean, they could sell beer that's not hazy too, right? It's not just really ****** styles or really hip styles available to them.

This missed the entire point of us talking about how we wanted hoppy beers that are clear and have bitterness. This isn't unreasonable to ask for. Or at least brew some hoppy beers that are below 7%. A pale ale would be nice.

This is craft beer, man, there is no middle ground.

Excluding the lack of West Coast IPAs compared to the wealth of hazy IPAs, I think they're doing a decent job of mixing it up with their small batch stuff - funky saison variants, witbiers, kettle sours, multiple lagers, etc. Some styles are represented more than others but they have a good variety on draft most of the time.

Yeah, I was really disappointed with the offerings all 3 times I have been to MT LA. I don't understand why you would open three breweries and just brew iterations of the same haze mank at each place. I guess putting (Brewed in Portland) on the menu is just another way to sell another 8% citra/mosaic haze beer.
Nothing in there that specifically denotes you'd like to see West Coast style IPAs being produced, just a complaint about hazy IPAs. I actually agree that it would be nice to see a few West Coast IPAs here and there, and I hope LA mixes it up a bit.

My roommate always picks up a few 4-packs of the hazy releases and doesn’t mind if I grab one or two from the fridge for myself. Last night I grabbed a Super Compiler, and because I’m not good at keeping track of the names, I freaked out for a split second when I saw red liquid coming out.

I'm not going to disagree with anything you've said so far. I feel compelled to point out that at some point, I don't know when exactly, they changed the description on fortunate islands to call it a pale ale. Which is something else that bugs me about this whole "craft beer" scene lately but that's probably for a different thread.

The new batch of Dort is pretty solid. I was unimpressed last time around, but they seem to have dialed it in.

Public sale email was sent out yesterday. Public sale will begin April 22.

TOLC / League email hasn’t been sent yet.

So if you’re not subscribed to the regular MT email list, you may not have received an email.

I’d assume TOLC / League emails with purchase windows will be out soon.

How about a preview tasting this month?

Portland/SanDiego tastings are scheduled for the 17th according to a comment made by Steven on the FB post in the league group. He didn't have a date for LA, but my guess would be the day after.

well...

Yeah, that was expensive. Yeeesh

Lowly league member here so haven't gotten my email yet, but I'm less excited with each passing post about how expensive it is, haha. Tasty line up last night. Didn't want to like DDH Orderville as much as I did. Stouts were of course great. But man that Wizard & Graf w/ Cherries... I love that beer. As far as the IPAs go, they're churning them out at such an absurd pace that I may just stick to crowler fills of stuff on tap instead of monthly releases. Which is what I say every month in the days before buying them via web sale.

Here's the info (minus the theory only bottle, don't want to unfairly tease you with that)

MONSTERS' PARK AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS W/ VANILLA
**Please note that this is *NOT* a nitro can, so be sure to pour it as you would a carbonated--not nitrogenated--beer.
This is Monsters’ Park—our hulking, cantankerous imperial stout—aged in fragrant, oaky bourbon barrels. The barrel character is immediately evident on the nose and only grows more intense in the flavor. We took this batch to a new tier of decadence by loading it up with a whole bunch of delicious vanilla beans from Madagascar and Ghana, which meld magnificently with the barrel character and giant, roasty profile to create a uniquely majestic beer experience.

WIZARD & GRAF: CHAPTER 2 W/ CHERRIES
**Will be available in both 750ml and 1.5L format
The second installment in our Wizard & Graf Series is a collaboration with the lovely humans at Shacksbury Cider in Vermont. We started with a blend of saison and apples sourced from the Basque Country and Vermont. We then fermented the blend with our house microflora, as well as wild cultures collected from the Shacksbury orchards. Aged in a clay amphora & French oak barrels and lovingly layered with cherries before months of bottle-conditioning, the resulting beer is tart, complex, & funky, with an intriguing & distinctive minerality derived from its time in the amphora. This was not an easy beer to make, but we are extremely glad we did.

April Preview Tasting Notes

Assorted Notes:
1) It was great to meet Leanne, the new League Coordinator, and chat with her a bit. She's an excellent addition to an already stellar team of people - if you see her at a tasting, event, or around the brewery, make sure to welcome her.
2) Steven said we should be seeing our next included League bottles next month and he was adamant that he be quoted on that. Ask and ye shall receive, my man. ;)
3) Andrew and Steven continue to be the hottest comedy duo around. If you haven't made it to a San Diego preview tasting to experience the magic, you're seriously missing out. The beers are pretty okay, too.

The Beers:
1) Oblivion Ring: NOLA Coffee Edition
Style: Barleywine w/ Coffee, Chicory, Almonds, & Vanilla
Score: 4.25
Notes: This is a new batch brewed in PDX that differs fairly significantly from the pilot batch that was brewed in LA, as the sweetness was dialed back and the adjuncts were increased. First whiff reveals some sweet, nutty notes, followed by moderate coffee and touches of vanilla. The adjuncts definitely dominate the nose with the base floating in the background. The palate is somewhat of a reversal as rich barleywine flavors hit hard right off the bat - toffee, moderate dark fruits, hints of leather and tobacco - followed by coffee, chicory, and notes of marzipan and vanilla. Remarkably balanced, I'm quite pleased with how the cans came out after thinking the pilot batch was overly sweet and a bit disjointed. The base really shines through as it warms, I'm curious to see what other adjunct combinations they end up doing with it.

2) Monsters' Park Aged in Bourbon Barrels w/ Vanilla
Style: BA Imperial Stout w/ Vanilla
ABV: 14.2%
Score: 4.75
Notes: Seventeen barrels went into this blend, ranging from eight to eighteen months old. The vanilla is a blend of beans from Madagascar and Ghana and the addition of the Ghanaian beans this year really stepped it up compared to the 2017 batch. The nose is just an outrageous blast of vanilla, with marshmallow dominating along with touches of fruity and floral vanilla rounding it out. Barrel notes support the vanilla along with light chocolate character. The palate opens with just a touch of bourbon heat before diving right back into vanilla. Dark chocolate shines through nicely as does a bit of roast character to provide a nice counterpoint to the vanilla jackhammering your mouth is receiving. If you like vanilla forward beers, this is definitely for you.

3) Monsters' Park Aged in Jamaican Rum Barrels w/ Coconut & Vanilla
Style: BA Imperial Stout w/ Coconut & Vanilla
ABV: 14.2%
Score: 4.75
Notes: Ten pounds of coconut per barrel along with one pound of Ghanaian vanilla per barrel, just absurd levels of adjuncting. The rum barrel leads the aroma with a big dose of dark fruits, then coconut comes through hard with vanilla and hints of semisweet chocolate supporting. On the palate, rum and dark fruits again lead but really meld with the coconut to create a sort of tiki, candy, rum soaked coconut effect. The adjuncts are heavy but the barrel really plays a big role, even more so as it warms. This doesn't quite top the Barbados Rum Monsters' Park w/ Coconut & Vanilla from 2016 in my book, but it's still an excellent beer.

4) Double Dry-Hopped Orderville
Style: IPA
Score: 4.25
Notes: Three times the usual hop load, spaced into two different dry hop batches, and the heavy hopping definitely shows. Big nose of tropical fruits, moderate dankness, and light hints of cat piss. Some nice mosaic candy sweetness leads on the palate before giving way to a big tropical fruit profile. Ridiculously crushable.

5) Wizard & Graf: Chapter 2 w/ Cherries
Style: BA Blend of Apple Cider & Funky Saison
Score: 4.25
Notes: They added Balaton cherries at a rate of four pounds per gallon to Wizard & Graf Chapter 2, which is a pretty crazy amount of fruit. The aroma is led by heavy tart cherry character but has a ton of balance with earthy funk, apple cider, light acidity, and touches of grain all coming through and intermingling. The palate opens up with big cherry notes but a wave of acidity hits quickly, giving way to moderate funk, apples, minerality, and light barrel notes. Tons going on and it's definitely something to sip, savor, and contemplate.
