  • Some of the bottles for this sale are rare archive bottles and have the potential to sell out before the League sale is over. If there's anything you absolutely must have, we'd be ready to grab it when the BPT pre-sale starts next Thursday (1/12) at 10AM.

When do bottles typically go on sale for the monthly allocations? I saw the e-mail about the preview but didn't see anything about purchasing.
Usually the heads-up email will go out right at the end of the month, and the sale will be held around mid-month of the proceeding month.

And I’ve never been a member, but I think members get about a half week lead on the public sales…?

You would be correct. Basically the same with emails too. Typically 1 week prior to public email announcement we get an email about the sale and the tasting tickets being live. Tasting on tuesday, sale on thursday, limits doubled on sunday morning, public sale on the monday afterwards where we can triple dip if we really wanted to.

I'm guessing the limits doubled emails will not happen the first couple of sales while they gage how much the league will buy now it's doubled in size.

It seems as if Jacob wants all BPT sales to go to members so as to deal with a smaller # of people during pickups. I would bet they will still continue since he has already mentioned that there are a few members that join just for the 10 bottles and nothing else. No extras, no pluses, etc... likely due to out of state or else too far up north to be able to come down that often.

Since the Sunday limit increases were informal last year - albeit something he posted on BA about and became a fairly clear pattern - I suspect one of two things will happen:
1) He'll make the Sunday limit increases official, so League Round 1 will be Thursday - Sunday at 10 AM, League Round 2 will be Sunday 10 AM - Monday 10 AM, Public will be Monday 10 AM - close.
2) He'll play it cautious and not increase limits during the League sale. With 400 new people who probably weren't paying attention last year and are likely more accustomed to the Bruery's way of doing things (guaranteed allocation until the last minute), he'd be playing with fire if he didn't announce ahead of time that your allocation isn't guaranteed.

I'm hopeful for scenario 1 but I also understand that there will be some adjustments with the increase in size of the League.

Good first tasting of the year this evening, Jacob was absent so Andrew did most of the talking (and did quite well branching out from the usual brewing details to leading the event). A few assorted notes first:
1) The new League coordinator is Steven Michael, formerly of the Bruery. He encouraged people to email him, which...good luck with that. He should've just been content to let people rant and rave on BA, but I guess fielding emails from needy beer geeks is one route to job security.
2) I had completely missed this in the recent emails, but if you're a League member, make sure to have them swipe your card when you're at the tasting room(s) to earn points for future, undisclosed rewards. It will also be factored into future/possible tiers of the League.
3) It sounds like there's going to be a real focus on increasing League perks this year - more events, special stuff for League members at their main fests (beginning with the Carnival of Caffeination), etc. No real details on that but sounds promising.
4) Opening archive bottles was a fairly brilliant move, as a couple of the beers had changed rather drastically since release, for the better in both cases. Nicaraguan Rum MP especially. I'm glad I'm sitting on a few bottles of that because it's considerably improved with time in the bottle.

The beers (somewhat less detailed tasting notes than usual since the beers are mostly archive releases):
1) Thermometer Island - 4.0 - Mild oak on nose, predominant citrus character both on nose and palate. Funk has dropped back a bit, huge fruit character right now...big, juicy, and nicely acidic. This has never quite fully come together for me - every time I've had it, it's been leaning heavily in one direction rather than showing balance - but if you're a new member, it would be well worth picking up a bottle.
2) Shadow Mountain - 4.25 - Aroma is somewhat subdued but good berry notes. Big, jammy berry character pops on the palate, acidity is restraind but enough to balance the fruit. A touch thin but the berry character has improved considerably since release.
3) Batch 1000 - 4.0 - I could've sworn this was more acidic on draft at the League party, but if I recall correctly, they were having trouble pouring it, so that could've caused some flavor differences. Out of the bottle, the aroma was heavy on wine barrel notes with moderate, earthy Brett. The palate is predominantly classic Brett profile - earthy, leathery, barnyardy, musty. Lovely. A bit more alcohol sweetness than I'd prefer but at 9.8% ABV, it wasn't out of line. I'm fairly optimistic about how this will evolve over time, much as I was with Symmetric Orchestra, although I don't think it will ever escape the fact that it's an almost 10% saison. If you like Dupont Avec Les Vons Voeux, this should be in your wheelhouse (in broad strokes, not specific flavors).
4) Nicaraguan Rum Monsters' Park - 4.5 - Fresh, this was a booze bomb and while I don't think it was bad, it was one of the lesser MP variants. With ~six months on it, the heat has faded and what's left is a massive dose of dark rum character on both the aroma and palate. Excellent body, long finish of dark fruits. If you like rum, it's a no brainer.
5) Glimmer Void - 4.5 - I opened this at a New Years Eve party and everyone was blown away that a strawberry sour could be so good. None of the massive phenolic character that many other strawberry sours exhibit, it's flawlessly executed with great fruit, well integrated into the base beer. Stoked to buy more.

And a final note - Andrew encouraged us to use our tasting notebooks that we received with the initiation package, then mentioned (and I'm paraphrasing slightly) "That guy will probably post everything on BA anyway, I don't know who he is but he's uhh..." and trailed off without finishing his thought. I'm vaguely curious what synonym for "verbose, opinionated ********" he decided not to say. ;)

since everyone thinks the shirts this year are cheap and suck who wants to sell/trade me their L?
Mine met with casualty already and I was pumped. Pocket T #1

I like the shirts shrug.gif. The chest pocket isn't totally my jam, but its a handy place to keep our dank ass Modem Tones Slammers.

American Apparel got bought out by Gildan (Cardboardware Inc) so that should appease all the neckbeards who bitch about American Apparel shirts not being quite like their favorite Hanes Beefy T. I has so many sads. Hopefully some semblance of the brand is retained by Gildan. Thankfully I'm neck deep in event/brewery/race shirts to last me into the next decade

Ok end shirt rant.

On the reals though, a League POG Tourney would be rad.

Isn't there like 20 brands now doing AA style paper thin humiliation scaled shirts (next level, etc) at this point that can fill the void in your heart? ;)

I can't make the tasting but based on the growler of Dinosaur World that was shared a couple of weeks ago I will be loading up on that one!

Agreed, cans of DW could give Underworld Dreams a run for its money as far as the best of their NE-style cans. Really looking forward to that one.

Not going to make the tasting but the beers all sound like fairly safe bets. Mostly curious about how a beefed up Fruitlands will be.

I was reading some article about that bummer news and the Gildan guy mentioned something about how somewhere alogn the road we might use the AA name as our "private label" for places like Target.

I mean, I buy shirts from Target, but man, that's kind of ******.

Another easy one! Funny each time the emails come out I consider maxing everything, then sale day comes and I grab a single bottle and 1-2 four packs. Is that what responsible spending feels like?

I've been going easy on bottles (though they're going easy ON ME cause it's been 1pp lately) and then just buying a lot of cans. The cans never seem to make it past a week... I just crush'em

What things are available for League member growler fills? Is it anything on tap?

They have a list posted on their league instagram of what is currently available.
https://www.instagram.com/leagueofpartygoers/

Although I do not see a list posted up there.

It is mostly everything except for nitro/cask and some of the bba. They will give you a list at the bar.
