You got a copy of that BM?

Why delete my thread? Your advice didn't work, and I would like my info that was deleted for no reason back.
Also, when will I see my next issue of the mag?

Thanks!

Matt

It was meant to be merged. I'll update the thread to state that some profiles won't have a cached copy, unfortunately.
As for the mag, you'll need to email us as per the FAQ.

Thanks,

Have any people actually in the craft beer industry been banned?

Friends of mine who:

- work for a distributor
- work at a bar
- own/run a brewery

Have been banned on BA. I have to admit I laughed at that. The Bros will soon go after Greg Koch, I'm sure.

"Your account has been locked. Reason: Belgo-Anise IRS.."

The real move is to take the beer geek web marketshare. The bros are the bros...have been, always will be...but if you can convert people to send their traffic and data and information here instead of there, their site will eventually go away and become non-profitable.

You can't hurt a business by yelling at the owners...you hurt them by taking away their clientele. there is a lot of energy and passion for this and i don't see why we can't all do this in a positive way by just building a better community with resources and features that the bros wouldn't entertain. Many people stayed at BA because of the people and info...if the people are all here, the info is all here and we start having features (like travel guides and whatnot) that the bros ignored that we wanted...

...if you build it, they will come.

Total newb to the beer sites, although I've been around plenty of other fora, including being a mod on a different nonbeer forum.
I am on the BA site, but haven't been around long enough to see the personal side of the moderation there. I did notice a pretty Naziesque record of closing threads and deleting off topic posts. Total n00b there though, dont think ive even posted.

The person that posted their general guideline rules on moderation was spot on. Thats how we handle it at the other site, even having a "transparent moderation thread" where people can bring up any concerns.

The reality is that BA is more of a business than a site, and like all businesses, they are free to make whatever decisions they want, no matter how stupid, and of course they have to deal with the blowback of losing "customers" as a reaction of those choices. Personally i think they are doing A poor job.

I came here because at first glance it immediately seemed like the kind of forum i preferred. Community-driven, knowledgeable people (sometimes encyclopedic), and plenty of fun. The best part of fora is typically what gets moderated out. The jokes, the relationships, the camaraderie, etc. Those thinga often get moderated due to being off topic or whatever, and its sad because ultimately that's what makes a community based forum so much better than the other kind. Of course people will come here for beer knowledge. But they will stay because of relationships formed and because they have FUN being on and reading this site.

Who cares if a thread goes 5-10 posts off topic and full of inside jokes? That's what makes this a community based DISCUSSION forum rather than wikipedia.

Anyway, just my two cents (American). The things this site offers currently, and the plans i see being discussed are what makes community fora so rich. I just hope that as time passes the discussion here becomes less about BA and more about mutual passion. And plenty of dick and fart jokes helps.

wut about dickfart jokes?

Fart joke from Moby Dick:

"Finally, I always go to sea as a sailor, because of the wholesome exercise and pure air of the forecastle deck. For as in this world, head winds are far more prevalent than winds from astern (that is, if you never violate the Pythagorean maxim)..."

While slamming them for their moderation and such is good fun, when it really comes down to it ... every time you visit their site you are giving them $$$. So if you don't want to support them then don't go to their site, subscribe to their rag, and don't attend their fests. Doing so only helps them ... yes, even with multiple troll accounts.

My guess with all of the hoopla that was created it probably increased their traffic ... or not.

Just my few cents ...

1. I wish theyd subtract all the users that have been banned or have opted out. Active users are all that really counts and they only retain about 10-15% of "active members from their total accounts which includes All the bans and troll accounts.
2. I wonder if they are having More fun here with their troll accounts than on their own site??
