I assume from the wink that you already know to do this. But, if other members are out of the loop, the two major options supported by most browsers are Adblock and Adblock Plus.
The winkyface was actually used to soften the "rob." Lol. I don't actually know. Plus I do 90% of everything from my iPhone. So don't know if it's a computer only thing or not.

Regardless. I RARELY go there at all anymore. Funny how they think/thought banning All the best/major contributors could do Anything, but negative. Lol.

As an Android guy I have no earthly idea if they are any good, but there are ad blocking solutions for iOS. There are more of them, and better ones at that, if you jailbreak. But even without doing so, it is possible:

Having said that, I do grant you that its utility is rapidly diminishing. That is why I spent many hours this weekend copying over my beer wishlist from BA to my own site (which, with ~3900 entries was a major pain).

The difference between '07 and '13 is the webz has grown. More and more Google searches for "Beer Advocate" will turn up more negative posts/sites about how the 'bros' are complete Mass-hole dickbags.

first of all, Todd moved to Denver, so he is no longer from Mass. second of all, don't give us Mass-holes a bad name by comparing us to those we banished from our state ;)

Not if you use an ad blocker.

I may be wrong, as I haven't looked into it in years, but I thought page hits influenced the rate for selling ad space. Is it just page loads per specific banner?

It depends, but at this point I believe most ads are pay-per-click, rather than pay-per-impression. Though since BA runs a magazine maybe they insist on ppi for the site too.

Pay-per-impression is one of two means, and the lower paying one. But if the ad is blocked, there is no impression to count.

Damn, people love posting on BA.

More and more Google searches for "Beer Advocate" will turn up more negative posts/sites about how the 'bros' are complete Mass-hole dickbags. After the first mass sacrifice of '07 "Night of the Long Knives" there were a few sites setup, but most were closed and invite only.

The Asstrom Bros only care about their rating database, for all those that were banned, check to see if your rates are still there. They may ban you, but for the mega contributers...they'll keep your ratings simply because that drives their business.

Now...they're being worse than before. Not just checking BM's and banning people for speaking their minds, but searching other websites. WTF! How simple minded and little do you have to be?! They have the same MO, but more and more people are becoming aware of this. Their brand is being diluted with all the other sites existing or coming online. BA had the unique opprotunity to corner the market...instead, they were fat, lazy and banned their contributiors. Way to go.

Geez, Phischy is here?
Barroomhero. Sup, chief.

Suprisingly, found this site WITHOUT being banned from BA. 'least as far as I know, as of now.

No one should be suprised by the alstroms doing this. Its how they roll. Only difference here is the scale. 2007 was 40 people. At most. And most of us kinda asked for it.

Somewhat suprising... Seemed like things had calmed down with Candice put back in her cage.

We can talk about whisky? Cool, I'm in.

New BT member here. Most of you probably wouldn't recognize me from the other place, but a few of you might recall me doing IP favors (non-sexual...) recently. I'm not a trader yet, as there's always great beer in one's own backyard. I'm into the online beer community for the chance to talk beer and meet up on occasion.

I like this site, the philosophy, and the ability to talk non-beer things. It's a little disorganized feeling, but I've laughed harder in the last two days than the previous two weeks. I might not be very active here, but if people are headed to Austin, TX, let me know.

Seeing a lot of TX people here! I am also not a known 'trader', mainly just try to keep a good buddy who moved away from Austin supplied with releases he is missing while being in Annapolis. Met some generous BAs through IP trades but also learned a ton just following along on the forums and taking helpful advice from others.

I was burned and frustrated by the heavy handed dictatorship that 'the bros' enforced so I am excited and optimistic seeing the number of familiar avatars over here, a lot I you were the majority of what was good and helpful on BA. As the poster above commented if anyone makes a trek to Austin, shoot out a message - we have a great selection of local craft and are now being flooded with national offerings too.

Cheers all

Nope, but if it's anything like the Zwanze glassware, I will have the undying desire to do terrible, terrible things to it in my bedroom.
You should see what I do to mine.

Also, sorry for the thread jack but if anyone goes and they have available glassware, help a brother out please ;)

berkshires There seems to be a lot of TX and CA people, with Great Lakes and some NY+NE. We need midwest people to get on here so they can win trades
(FT: ZD x 1, ISO: PtE x 8 or DDG x 2;|| or, FT:Cherry Rye ISO: HT x 12 or Atrial Rubicite batch1 x 6).

shelf_turd_ferguson berkshires Glad to have you both aboard! I'll be at the JK Funk & Sour fest next weekend, hope to see you both there
I love it when people acknowledge me!

I'm sure the glassware will be tits.

I'm from the Midwest and just traded 3 PsudoSue + 3 Sosus for DDG. Did I win?

Exactly what happened back in 2007 on BA? I joined in 2008, and completely missed it.

Same deal, just on a smaller scale (I think, anyway... not sure how many were banned this time). They decided they didn't like some vocal community members. People were banned summarily, beermails from them were read, more people banned. About 30 or 40 people, if I recall correctly.

****, they don't even follow their own TOS... they went after me for editing some Wikipedia stuff- and in the process posted my name, email, and ip address. On said public Wikipedia page.

Make NO MISTAKE regarding how the alstroms feel about the "beer community"- its there only to provide them with revenue and a power trip. That is the FULL EXTENT of any concern on their part for any sort of community.

Beerinator.com thread about the 2007 purge - http://www.beerinator.com/community/index.php?PHPSESSID=6qjvq6l7aq7pbabruupfv9i8p6&topic=2177.0

I remember Venom asking to get his account nuked and then the later purges. Venom could be a bit abrasive to n00bs but dude absolutely knew his ****.

My beef with the site goes beyond that. There are always going to be vocal minorities who move on and a new group to replace them. I think the Alstroms realize that and strive for a bland site friendly to the masses who are more likely to click on ads. My beef came when they started doing things like revamping then getting rid of the BeerFly Guides. Then the constant site issues and begging for donations and mag subscriptions to get a better server while still finding time and money to travel to places like Australia at the same time. After a few promising issues, the magazine was a disappointment too, even forgiving all of the initial problems they had with delivery. It basically became another vehicle to deliver ads.

And while I never had a run in with her personally, Candice Alstrom probably has one of the most vile online personalities. im convinced she's a primary reason why many of the original brewers who posted there stopped doing so (and this was before the whole Clown Shoes thing).
