Just received my Ranco ETC in the mail and getting ready to wire it up. I see the prewired ones on eBay and noticed they use a long extension cord (say 25ft). Are there any considerations for using a long vs. short extension cord?

I have a 9ft extension cord that I'm willing to cut up but should I go buy a new longer cord to wire it up with instead? Is 9ft enough...its really not much use for anything else! Obviously distance from the outlet to the fridge is a factor, but are there any other things I should consider?

Thanks!

I had read that a longer cord will shorten the life of the temp controller. Don't really remember the technical reasoning behind it. Maybe drawing more amps than it should? But to be on the safe side, I made my cord three feet.
