I scored me a few switches for my future control panel. Allen Bradley 800t-j2. They came with mounted 800t-xa contactor blocks.

My plan is to use the 3 postion on/off/on switch to allow power to only one 5500w element at a time. My understanding was - use selector switch to control 240v contactor with 120v coil. But looking at these specs:

http://www.ab.com/en/epub/catalogs/12768/229240/229244/2531083/Specifications.html

It appears the contactor block that came with switch can handle the load. Or am I reading this wrong? Trying to figure out if I need to buy contactors for switching these elements or not.

Thanks

Correct me if I misread the spec. But the MAX rating for the contacts is 10A. 5500/240=22.9A If it were me, I would use a contactor rated for continuous duty.

I see what you read. I missed that the first time through. But the chart below that for 800t-xa contactors says very different operational load ratings. This is what I'm confused about.

+1 on using the selector switch to control two contactors.
It would be highly unusual to have the selector switch with the higher amp rating.

If you had the higher rating switch, it would be physically huge and have large terminal lugs for connecting the conductors to it.

So this is what I have. Probably not rated for it?
