The one thing that IS still freaky... when they did the chest x-ray, the pnemonia looks kinda like a big round mass in one spot of her lungs.

This is referred to as......"a pneumonia". It is a scary sight, but that is what it looks like on x-ray. It is a junky, loooogie on the lung tissue. Don't be too worried (if that's possible---I'm a dad X 3, too) if it takes a day or two for the fever to come down. Think of the antibiotics as the yeast in your fermenter, it doesn't make beer in an hour or a day, it takes a while. At least now she is getting treated and there is no more "well, we're tyring to figure that out".

Well, good news so far. She's responded well to the antibiotic, so we're all home (the original plan was to admit her through Monday morning). Mother-in-law's coming out to help disinfect the house (Star-san or Iodophor to sanitize a little girl's room? I guess the latter will leave a nice purple tinge).

Well, that's really good news, but I wonder about responding to antibiotics after one day. That seems a tad unusual. I'm thinking that her willingness to play had more to do with her recovery than the drugs. Laying down with pneumonia is not the best thing to do. In any case, it must be very nice to have her home but I'll bet you won't get much sleep!

I spent the weekend at our cottage, and just now saw this. Wow- what a stessful time. I'm glad to hear she's doing better now.

One thing I noticed when my son was almost two and hospitalized with an infection- they do get better quickly and have almost no effects from all the trauma of being in the hospital and needles, etc. The parents, though, have a very hard time. So, I'm thankful that Cassie is improving and responding so well to treatment. I'll keep you guys all in my prayers until everything is back to normal for you.

Thanks again, guys! In the end, it's something fairly minor, fairly routine... it's just the not knowing what the hell was going on that really stressed. Once they could tell us what it was and how they would treat it, it was a lot better. She's still worn out, she'll be hacking up lung butter for a week, but she's back in daycare and we're getting back to normal. Thanks for all the well wishes, both Shan and I really appreciated it.

I'm extremely glad to hear that your daughter is doing better. I know how stressful it can be when children are sick and she was VERY sick.

Never, NEVER underestimate the strength of little girls.

I spent 10 months of 1997 sitting by my (then) 11 year old with Burkitts Leukemia. 6 (count them) 6 times, we were told by the Doc's during that time to make "preparations" for the worst.

She would have no part of that.

Defied all odds that one.

She'll graduate college next year and has a real knack for the art of brewing.

Bird, prayers are a real mystery...but if anyone wants to talk about seeing miracles first hand...I have a lot of stories.

Thoughts and prayers go out for her continued recovery. (Trust me, you went through a lot worse than she did...)

I just saw this. Made me think back to when my daughter was little. She had pneumonia twice - once during the holidays while we were out of town visiting family - and we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas morning in the hospital.

I don't really get stressed about much, but my wife sure was!
