Holy ****! A San Diego brewery is going to brew a west coast IPA over it Europe and it didn't take a ******* pretentious crowdsourcing campaign to make it happen. How is this possible???

Coffee and Roasted Malts do add bitterness. Not measurable in IBUs AFAIK, but they definitely contribute.

Wait, European...breweries? Maybe do some more research, those are obviously fictional. Only real breweries are in Escondido, and the San Diego airport.

Remember when Lagunitas opened up a brewery in Chicago that's bigger than all Chicago breweries combined and on their own dime? The fact that a 50 year old guy that smokes pot all day has enough business sense to do this and Stone doesn't is mind boggling.

I mainly find it eye-rolling. It won't stop me buying the few Stone beers I enjoy (Enjoy By and Go To) when I want one, but it's a naked marketing stunt that clearly isn't needed to complete the projects and exploits their biggest fans. I have been enjoying watch just how slowly their campaign is going. Sadly, because of flexible funding they get whatever they raise no matter what, but I'm really doubting they hit 1 million, unless some of those magnums are a lot more appealing than the first three...

It is flexible funding unlike Kickstarter. They get the money whether they hit $1 million or not.

Mixed message. On one hand, the mission statement says "Stone Brewing Co. is poised to become the first American craft brewer to own and operate a brewery in Europe, and we need your help to make it happen."

Later they state "Yes, this will happen without your support in this campaign…eventually…but by joining us, you can make it happen better, sooner and faster."

It should basically say, "We have built these gardens in Escondido, Point Loma, Pasadena, Oceanside and North Park. They are more expensive than we thought. We would rather not borrow the money from the bank and pay interest so we will pre-sell some party favors to pay for it."
