I've never done a starter, just added dry yeast to wort and let her go. I purchased a 1000 ml flask and some dry malt with an airlock. The instructions that came with the kit all use smack packs or liquid yeast to make the starter. I have dry packets. How do I make a starter with dry yeast?

You really don't use dry for starters you can but with the price of DME it a wash to adding another packet. A 11g packet will be enough for a 1.060 or less beer. You can just pitch extra if you brew a higher gravity or larger quantity . Liquid yeast is when you make starters

+1. Starters for dry yeast is not needed.
