I am trying to create a started on WLP410 (Belgian Wit II, Platnium)

I am not using a stirplate and as you can see its pretty crude, I also don't have yeast nutrients! Well anyway, I have read that tubes will go slower but I hardly see any changes except cake growth, which I disrupt swirling now and then. When should I give up on this starter and transfer it to a new starter to grow it more? Other than nutrient (and using a sterilized coke bottle =D what could I have done wrong/better.) Feel free to question on stuff I left out.

I usually let my starters go for about 2 days or so, then step them up to 64 oz growler (from 22 oz bottles), then up to 1 gallon.

Looks fine to me, got some yeast collected in the bottom of the bottle, that is all that really matters. I prefer using a flat bottomed vessel, including a beer glass (which I've seen done) because you can get a better idea of how much yeast has been collected.

Thanks for the reply Revvy. Yea I think I am going to buy growlers and more airlocks, I am doing a plastic wrap rubber band method on that one and it seems pretty archaic I bet it beats the hell out of medieval times though!
