Ok.....so I put a quarter cup of dme in 1 qt of water instead of a quarter pound of dme. Should I cook up 1/2 qt with the additional dme and pour it into the starter, or just leave it. Yeast was just pitched 12hrs ago.

Probably. qt. cup DME is really not very much sugar for the yeast. Make sure you boil well, cool, and leave in the same environment as the original starter for a couple of hours to let it come to the same temperature.

It will be fine, just give it up to about 24 hours but not less than 12 to grow at room termp and shake or areate a lot. I use to use 1/4 cup all the time with 1/4 t of yeast nutrient. In the future you will do better with 1/2 to 3/4 cup DME in a qt. (1g DME to 10 ml H2O to be more exact)
