I bottled and waiting for my 1st brown ale extract kit. I decided to try the 1 gal. in the new BYO by james spencer, I want to use the 1 gal approach for new and different beers and brew 5 gal. for ones I like. as I acquire carboys and equipment I can expand.
I'm not a real hop head so I talked to my local supplier and decided to modify the recipe a little and not do the dry hopping.
I can see how this can become a very addictive habit quickly.
ps: tapped a bottle of ale tonight on the 1 week conditioning and can't wait till 2weeks! :ban:

what do you guys think of the small batch methods?

Good for trying out recipes, except if it turn's out killer you only have a gal of it and that goes fast. Also if you can, 5 gal is not that much more brewing time. I brew 10 gal AG batches and it's a mere 1/2 hr longer brew sesh.
Cheers and welcome to the addiction.
