So, I accidentally knocked my yeast starter over and spilled 3/4 of it accross the counter. We gathered the yeast from the tabletop it into a container and there was plenty of little things floating in it. I had cleaned the counter earlier in the day but.. It feels like a risk to try and use the yeast.

Has anyone ever tried to use yeast with some grit in it?

I don't have any more yeast, the stores are closed. I'm thinking about cooling the wort, putting it into the carboy and waiting till tomorrow afternoon. 14-16 hours or so.. Any thoughts?

ater you get it cool and put an air lock on it, you could wait till the store opens. i would pitch what i had, then get more and pitch it as well

Edit: with the clean 1/4 of the starter you have not the dirty 3/4 you knocked over

No problem waiting 14 hours. Just make sure everything is well sanitized. While your at the store pick up a couple packets of dry yeast so you will have a backup next time.

Thanks guys. I'll throw the 1/4 I have in an grab a new pack tomorrow (and an extra) I guess this is the problem with drinking and brewing. I was bound to have a problem eventually.. :)

Yeah a quarter of a startrr should be close to a whole smackpack. Id just toss in a new smack pack tomorrow
