I had planned on getting some StarSan anyways. But, is this any good?

It is a decent cleaner and some use it with success as a sanitizer. Many have said that it will not sanitize.
IMO nothing beats Starsan. Although I have never used Iodaphor which would be my other choice.

PBW to clean. :rockin:
StarSan to sanitize... :ban:
It's a one-two punch that does the job really well. Sure, you can use oxyfree to clean, if you want to have to rinse heavily. PBW rinses easier/cleaner/faster. :D I'm about to order another 8# container of it, since the one I have is getting low.

So, to answer the OP question... IF it does a good job, and you got it cheap enough, try it out. Worst case you'll need to clean more than once with it, using it up faster. Once the items are clean, sanitize as you would normally when you need to (post boil, etc.).

So use it for cleaning but not so much for sanitizing? It came with my starter kit.

It's a cleaner not a sanitizer (or one of those 'one step' products)...

What I just ordered... You can get 1# or a 4# container too if you don't want to spend that much. I normally use 1oz[+/-] per gallon depending on what I'm cleaning and how much the solution needs to do. IF it's going against something HEAVY, then 1.5-2.0oz per gallon will do the trick. I use a digital scale to weigh it out before mixing, not using a scoop measure to get the concentrations.

I have had the LD Carlson fail me one too many times. I can confirm it failed me because I am religious about using cleaners/sanitizers the entire time I'm brewing. Using just LD Carlson I have had 4 infections in 20 brews. Relying solely on Starsan to sanitize everything, I have experienced ZERO infections. I can't scientifically prove 100% LD Carlson is crap. But I trust so and will continue to do so based off my experiences & observations.

Use it as a cleaner with a soft scrub pad. You will want star san for a sanitizer. No rinse after star san & the yeast eat it up. Cheers:)
