My apologies if this was covered elsewhere.

I seem to have what I think is an envious situation with my yeast starters: I have very short lag times. For example, I just pitched 2 smack packs of month old Wy2035 into a 1.7L starter and fired it up it on the stir plate. Within an hour the thing was bubbling insanely hard. A few months ago I had the same thing happen with 6+ month old 2035.

Most of my reasonably fresh yeasts, both ales and lagers, do this. Is this normal in other's experiences?
 
Healthy yeast will take off really fast and finish pretty quick. That's a good thing. As long as you're not having any problems with contamination, which it sounds like you're not or you'd be complaining about off flavors, everything will be fine. Is it pretty warm? That will speed things up.
 
I pitched it at about 72F and the room temp is 64F.

I haven't had any off flavors or contamination issues. Everything ferments extraordinarily clean (I typically ferment lagers at 48F, and ales around 64F).

I wasn't so much worried as much as was wondering if anyone else sees this rapid of a fermentation with their starters. Most people on here seem to be having issues with them not being fast enough.
 
I freeze yeast and get pretty long lag times initially when I make the first step of a starter. Once I get a decent, healthy population going, it's not abnormal to ferment out a 2L starter in 12 hours flat on a stir plate. Same thing with fairly fresh smack packs. Old ones (pushing 6 months) usually take a little time though.
 
It just means you are doing it right! I rarely experience lag times either but I believe some people mistake lack of activity when the yeast are actually working hard. I have only had 1 yeast starter actually have any blow off and all of my others just bubble away with around an inch or two of foam at the peak activity.
