Shaken yeast starters

Hey folks.
I know there's gotta be info on shaken not stirred starters somewhere in here, but for the life of me I'm struggling to find it. Anyone happen to have a cross link handy? I've never made a starter before and after having a terrible lag time on a recent slurry repitch (jar was about 4 months old) which resulted in a terrible off flavor, I think its time to look into it. I'd like to keep direct pitching slurry when its fresh, but I have an older jar from late may in my fridge that I wanna use up in an alt next week.
