So, here's the story.
My wife is the music director at our church, and I play guitar for her most Sundays. Six months ago or so, a new family started coming to church and the oldest kid in the family had started playing guitar. He got all excited that I was playing an electric guitar at church. At some point he was getting ready to play something at a talent show at his school, so his mom asked me to work with him a little bit to help him out. Cool. No problem. So I gave the kid a few tips and helped him feel a little more confident about what he was playing.
The dad found out I brewed and enjoyed beer and said he'd buy me a beer sometime. I told him it wasn't necessary and that I was happy to help the kid out.
Months went by and we would see the family at church and I talked to the kid occasionally about what he was working on playing.
Then today, after the service was over, the dad comes over to me and says he got a bunch of bottles and wondered if I could use them for my homebrew. I was like, yeah sure I can always use some more bottles. Then he says they need some cleaning and whatever, but he had them in his car.
Turns out they are 16 oz. Grolsch bottles. :rockin: And he got them for practically nothing at an auction over the weekend.
Anyway, I now have 63 Grolsch flip-top bottles.
I've wanted to stalk craigslist for deals on bottles and other brewing stuff, but just haven't had the spare cash to go for it. Never thought I'd score brewing gear just by going to church.
They are pretty filthy and the gaskets are in bad shape. But a good PBW soak and some new gaskets should do the trick.
