This saison was fermented with WLP565 Belgian I, and transferred to secondary after 2 weeks. On week 3 I pitched WLP655 (Brett B) that I had grown from starter to use in multiple batches. Around week 8 I took a look and there was a slight white film on top. It looked very typical of Brett pellicles. I left it in the closet for another 4 weeks (3 month total) and was going to bottle tomorrow so I figured I'd take a look. Attached is what I'm seeing now. This is definitely a lacto pellicle right?

My guess is from washing my belgian saison yeast that I picked up a bacteria. Agree?

I don't see why that wouldn't just be the Brett pellicle from the 655 you pitched. I've seen Brett pellicles of all different varieties.

Looks like the pictures I have seen of Brett. Looks to be relatively thin but the same kind of bubbly film.

It is virtually impossible to determine what is causing the pellicle unless you put it under a microscope. I would guess the brett is what's causing the pellicle but if you're worried, take a pH sample and taste it to see if the pH is dropping or if it's beginning to taste tart/sour.

Most likely the brett you pitched. Temp variations, off gassing, etc can cause the bubbles in the pellicle, even if no additional fermentation is taking place.

Thanks for the replies. I will check pH. There was a large temp increase recently with the heat wave here. I guess that could be it. All Brett only pellicles I've seen did not have those large bubbles. If pH isn't much lower I will bottle up. Thanks again.
