I just made a 5 gallon batch of Star San and was curious after using this to dunk my bottles and racking cane etc.. Is there anyway i can store this batch and use it again? If so how long will it keep in a plastic bucket?

As long as it is making foam it should be good. If you have PH test strips, just check it to see if it is at 3.5 or below. If not, just add a smidgen more to freshen it up.

If you use RO water it will last even longer if you put a lid on the bucket. It will stay clear too.

if its cloudy it may not last long. Next time use distilled water and it could last you months. But really the only way to tell is by using EdWort advice about Ph strip testing

Does anyone know if I can use pool pH testing equipment to check the pH of StarSan? I don't know if the phosphoric acid, or whatever, may affect the test. I guess I could buy some strips and test with both of them side by side.

What is the difference between Starsan and Iodophor? I get the drift it's pretty much 6 of one and a haffdozen of the othern. Specifically, my question would be this: My LHBS supplies Iodophor, but doesn't have Starsan; should I insist they order some for me to try, order some online, or just forget about it 'cuz there's not enough difference to worry about?

And where on earth would one get Ph strips?? Ha, the things you learn trying to brew beer!

i am no expert on the subject; as i understand it, you can use any PHstrip that can test 5.0 and below. as edwort said... the solution should be @ 3.5 or below.

you should be able to get PH strips at your LHBS.

there are a massive number of threads discussing the pros and cons of both products. i personally like starsan better, i can use it over and over again until it falls below the recommended PH and/or gets dirty.

Iodophor is only good for about 24 hours. StarSan will last for months. ;)

Well, pool kits use dyes suspended in the liquid, not strips. At least all the ones I've used do. You put a few drops of some chemical in the water and shake it up and it changes color, like the test kits they use on cop shows.
