A friend of mine let me borrow a bunch of empty grolsch bottles. Some of them still had untouched beer inside that he forgot about. He thinks they've been siting there for about a year. We tried one and it was pretty flat. I was wondering if it's possible to safely re carbonate these and if so how?

Appreciate the tip. Unfortunately I don't have a legging setup. Could I just add some priming sugar to the bottle?

Put a 3/4 teaspoon of white sugar in one, let them sit for a few weeks and see what happens. If that doesn't work, you'd also have to add a little bit of yeast.

Flip tops absolutely work for aging. I've been bottling in swing-tops off and on for nearly 15 years. I will NEVER go back to capping.

That said, the gaskets will need replacing from time to time, though normally they last for years. The bottles and wire bails, if taken care of, will last a lifetime.

Do the flip-tops not work for aging?

I bottled some wine in grolsch bottles stored longer than a year and the wine wasn't spoiled but it wasn't ever carbonated either. I have bought mead in a blue flip top but it was also shrink wrapped.

The amber flip tops I bought have a cap flange but I haven't ever used it (no bench capper yet) and I have stored beer in them for at least 3 months w/o losing any carbonation. Never a year

EDIT: taoisilent beat me b/c I walked afk.:drunk:
