TBH, I shied away from all her nonsense after she started doing FB live vids for the female deprived barleybois. Not looking to slander anyone who has passed, so I'll let someone who followed the situation closer explain. Maybe NClambicguy ;)
I made an off color comment or two towards her in the beginning but pretty much just tried to ignore her posts because they were so dumb and annoying.

The whole situation is a major clusterfuck with people jumping to conclusions about her cause of death and white knighting now that she has passed. BiL is nothing more than a clown car group and she knew damn well what she was doing. Every time someone expressed concern she would shrug it off and said she knew what she was doing. It sucks seeing anyone lose their life at such a young age and my heart goes out to her family and friends at this time.

Edit: pretty sure the beers that were sent her way were for her 21st birthday. Also, some people in that group are truly repulsive in the things they posted today. I'm likely to leave the group as well unless things get cleaned up there in a hurry.

Have you exited the clown car yet?

Not yet. My hopes is that people will grow the **** up and realize that a lost life is nothing to joke at. I don't think the group or it's people are to blame for what happened, particularly since we do not know what happened yet. Some close to her say it was not drug related and there was a hospitalization just last week for a severe MRSA infection. It's the **** people are posting today that really shock me. Luckily the toxic beer lady troll has already left with her sex worker self.

Do you believe that Franch's description of the situation is accurate?

I told Alex months ago that I quit because because that group was full of every kind of -ism and I needed out before it officially got branded a hate group. I like Alex, but BIL is a toxic topic. I didn’t even see this stuff first hand, and the whole situation makes me angry.

I don't find it nearly as bad as you did. It's like 99% dumb memes and jokes that get beaten to death pretty much I really don't ever see anything that would make it a hate group.

It seems pretty hypocritical that some people are so mad for encouraging her stupid behavior yet those same people praise others for chugging beers all the time and **** like that.

Sure go ahead and joke around, but when you see someone who is clearly showing signs of real problem behavior, maybe you should take a step back and reassess the situation and your own behavior.

A lot of racist and sexist memes. And don’t tell me they finally gave up on harassing Stephen Body.

The group just “it would be cool if you got wasted and showed us yout tits” a girl to death ffs. And then were like “well she was an addict anyway... let’s do a tshirt!” Tell me this tshirt won’t commemorate her ****s in any way.

Like I said, the more I hear, the angrier I get.

Not at all. I'm not sure how he can place her death on that group without a single shred of evidence. The girl regularly chugged beer, smoked pot, took xanax, and did whip its. Her being in that group did nothing to change that except make it a public forum.

Would he say the same thing if hoppy floppy was found dead due to some OD?

The group is toxic but so is the Trump thread and franch is plenty active in there. We just don't have the chug videos or tits to go with it.

I can change one of those things, I will leave it to you to guess which.

Kidding, of course.

I guess maybe you have a point about the sexism if you mean the porn star memes but they use a lot of gay porn for memes too and I feel like I've seen maybe a racist thing or two put on there but the people got pretty ******* roasted for that ****. The neckbeards did want to "see her tits" but at the same time she was always putting them out there for attention so they're both in the wrong and the group can't be blamed for whatever happened to her drug/booze related or not. She had the problems and she went there for the attention and to **** with people as much as they ****** with her. As far as Body that dude makes lunatic posts online on a daily basis so he's fair game to make fun of as far as I'm concerned.

This is disheartening to hear. I exited back when tikk called me out in a good way. Never been about barleywines anyways.
That was the early days before it went to ****. I unfollowed the group when the stupid finger circle game was going nuts. I get notifications when my buddy **** posts in there. Popped my head in a few times and was thinking of leaving. The news of the situation solidifies my choice.

Statement from Alex
"
The untimely death of Caetie Shea is extremely tragic and warrants comment.

Barleywine is Life has always been a forum for almost entirely uncensored discussion of all things tangentially malt related. When over 4000 people aggregated, each with differing viewpoints, the scope of how we grieve will invariably change the scope of how we interact with one another. I don't think it is a point of contention that the loss of life at age 21 is a tragic thing. While some may focus on autonomy, life choices, or leverage blame to make sense of things, the fact remains that Caetie's death is depressing without qualifier.

Barleywine is Life serves as an open forum to discuss all things tangentially malt-related. The underbelly of this freedom is the scope of discourse that results from people drinking the highest abv beers in the world and some of the interaction that results. Some have posited that this group is culpable for enabling the tragedy that has occurred. Others have chosen to focus on the conduct of members while Caetie was alive. Some have even asked for the entire group to be shut down. It is an unfair appraisal to lay the entire blame or contributory circumstances on a Facebook group but one salient point arises: we shouldn't be so ****** to one another.

Whether there was any causal aspect that arose from this group remains up for, grossly untimely, debate, but from the past year attempting to moderate the conflicting viewpoints it seems clear that Caetie's death is a powerful reminder of how short life is, and that we should work to be better to each other.

It is saddening that I need to articulate this: don't post things that you wouldn't want your family to read if you yourself passed away. Feign empathy or decency if the death of a 21 year old is too difficult an abstraction for you. It's easy to lay blame at alleged decisions, lifestyle choices, or circumstances to rationalize the capricious nature of life and how it can be snuffed out. For some it's equally difficult to define the scope of what conduct is toxic, **** shaming, or sexist in a group full of edgelords pushing the envelope while high on the most powerful beers in the world. What we witnessed is distilled tragedy and should serve as a cautionary reminder that we can always improve how we interact, the degree of respect we impart, and the toffee soaked community that we inhabit.

Be better to one another.
