I'm pretty sure that beer is going to be terrible. I'll be happy to send you a label so you can ship it to me for verification.

Update on shipping?

It went out late last week.

Tracking? Delivery manager shows squat.

Hold on the internet is out as they are doing work on the street.

You can check your phone?

I cannot pull up tracking on there.

How so?

Just talked to my FedEx account manager and for some reason it didn't go out. Thought I sent it!

Let me send you a new tracking number in a few hours and include an extra bottle. If by chance you get two boxes we can sort it out.

Ummmm okay

New tracking sent.

This all transpired over a morning. What a fiasco

I have had a slew of recent trades where people haven't shipped out at the agreed upon date. Today I had a guy who has forgot to drop off 2 days in a row and felt like he needed to add extras to make up for it. I got this message from him:

"i threw in an uninfected date stout and another beer that is prob a drainpour.... not much for extras but i couldnt leave the 3 shipper empty!"

I'd probably prefer a 2/3 empty shipper than that.

Haha, I just said "thanks for the extras?"

They ended up being infected BCBS and infected Bourbon Mayan Mocha Stout....so ya
Where'd you find this chuckledick? I can't imagine choosing to send 2 infected beers rather than just grabbing a local 4 pack (which everyone probably has in their fridge already) or literally anything else and throwing those in instead.

And extras in trades are completely a thing of the past, right (when dealing with non-TB folks)?

Interesting you say that. My last couple of trades the person I was sending to either didn't send any extras or wanted to be very specific about what they were sending as an "extra" and what they were receiving as the "extra". I still blew them up, but am wondering if I missed the memo on the culture change.

It happened a few years ago. Extras are just that. I don’t need or expect them, but I enjoy sending them. I have just as much fun extraing folks snacks, swag, random trinkets I hope make them laugh, etc. Some folks want box exchanges to be all business and no fun. That’s their thing. I need to make it fun or I will up and quit.

sign, while we are on topic, I have a trade partner who I have met in person and is a good guy, but has had some legitimate thigs come up over the past 3 months. At this point, however, every time I talked to him, "so sorry I'll ship next week", or something like that. Now we are in a relationship where we just wait and fill a 6 shipper and send out when its full, but this shipper has been full for over 3 months now. I'm being very patient with him, but how hard is it to ship a ******* box that he already has filled with beer?

******* BA of course.

And ya, extras really are old news. I never get them any more and when I do, they infected.

You know how life happens where you don't have a half an hour max at all ever to drop a box off at the store...

Sorry about that. I will send you some Upland extras.

Sorry about this too! I will send you some Hopslam.

Should be dropping it off tomorrow, but if not then the following fiscal year.

I have had similar experiences lately. One person had never heard of the idea of extras. I agree with trickytunadicky ... just send them because its a good thing to do, but there definitely is a culture change.

One reason I don't trade much anymore is because I don't keep a cellar anymore, and my locals are not that desirable. So I always feel like I receive much cooler extras than I send out, which leads to some guilt.
And everyone just trades wales or lambics these days, which is why I don't really trade. We have plenty of great beers that aren't easy to get locally, but nationally no one cares that much. I don't really mind, there's so damn much beer to drink here now. But it's annoying when you hear of a limited beer that sounds really good.

For me it really depends on what the trade is and how it's being shipped. I don't trade much anymore but 95% of the time when I do, it's using either a 6 or 12 shipper. So I'll always fill that up, but how many "extras" are going in will depend on the size of the actually agreed-upon trade and how many empty slots are left. Or if someone wants something like 12 or 24 pack of cans, I'm probably using an appropriate-sized can shipper (if I have one) and not including extras. But if they want 8 cans then I'll throw in another 4 to fill up a shipper. Or I'll take a box cutter to a styro shipper so each slot can hold 2 cans stacked vertically.

Dunno if that makes me a shitlord, or someone who just doesn't want to deal with a fuckton of bubble wrap and packing peanuts/newspaper/etc anymore. I do think most people I trade with appreciate getting a nicely-packed, orderly box that is not going to break in transit.

Yeah, and on top of that, Distribution is so much better too.

For me, not trading is particularly easy. I don't really like NEIPAs, and rarely crave a barrel-aged stout/barleywine. That's, what, 90% of the styles traded?

Can definitely attest to distro being better since we live in the same state. Combine that with not wanting to spend money on shipping labels and packing materials, i just have no desire to do it anymore.

I don't think so. My last 3 trades with off of TB (one guy is a sporadic TB user, the other two aren't on TB at all) have all included extras in both directions. And one of those was with a first time trader who knows very little about beer and nothing about beer trading norms.
