I'm like you in a way. I have trouble drinking big beers anymore. As I keep getting older, I keep going away from sweetness more and more. I used to love BA Barleywines, but don't even seek them out anymore. I'll enjoy a BA Stout from time to time, but only it is on the dryer end of the spectrum, or if there is a little roast to balance out the sweetness. I've really just settled in to only wanting West Coast style hoppy beers, Saison, and Belgian Sours.
Maybe it's because I don't do the 2oz pour at a bottle share thing? I guess I'm doing it wrong. Don't even care though.
