That would be his own damn fault for posting a bikini picture of his model wife for us idiots to ogle.

Does anyone remember the 'wife off' ChadQuest had with that guy on Beer Advocate circa 2011? I'll have to find the screenshot after work.

That label tho....

I see you follow/friended one of my IRL buddies and ticka supreme.

Untappd is ******* stupid. You do not need it to hold your hand so you can decide what non-beer tasting beer to purchase/drink. And no, having a 1oz sample doesn't count as a check in.

Yelp is ******* stupid too

I think it is a bad program for different reasons (it is literally the Yelp of beer - the data has been manipulated for a number of reasons), but encouraging full pours encourages alcoholism (and finishing bad beers - you don't need to finish a B1 Blue Lady to know there is something wrong with it). That being said, I am not going to tell someone else not to Untappd if they thing it is fun. Just don't ask me to do it.

Untappd?

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while.

Untappd should be viewed as nothing more than a fun (if you're into it) way to track beers you've had and share what you're drinking with friends, add some photos and ratings, etc. I get the comparison to Yelp but I think there's a big gulf between them, both in the way Yelp is marketed (and how they strong-arm businesses) and the extent to which it's used to air out grudges.

Anyone taking Untappd seriously (brewers or drinkers) has lost the plot.

Untappd is an app which appeals to completionists. They even give out achievement badges. By insisting Joe completionist needs to have "x" ounces to get all of his ticks/badges/whatever in instead of just enough to fill out a quickie review to his own benchmark, he is now going around trying to get all of the achievements by drinking all of the ounces of all the things... It's throwing fuel on a fire that doesn't need to be there. A sample is enough. I don't believe in encouraging that kind of behavior.

I get what you're saying, but if you're drinking/ticking a beer in order to get a virtual badge you're doing beer wrong.

This really gets to a point that's orthogonal to whether or not Untappd is "good" to use, which is that it's totally possible to rate a beer based on a sample and doesn't require drinking an entire full pour. I mean, this is what happens at pretty much all beer competitions.

There's obviously something positive to be said in favor of a beer where it's enjoyable to drink a full glass of it though, as opposed to only being good for a small sample.

I'm not sure I follow this. Are you saying untappd insists you have to complete a beer to check it in? I've checked in several two-sip drainpours. If a beer sucks, I'm not drinking it just so I can have a "legitimate" check-in. My body has a way of shutting that whole thing down.

This was in direct response to someone above saying 1 oz wasn't enough. I honestly don't know or care what Untappd requires, nor do I care. If they do, it is a dumb rule for the reasons I mentioned (including you don't need much to know there is something wrong with a beer).

Gotcha. That's what I was thinking. Untappd doesn't have a requirement, and it's not like they could enforce it if they did.

I usually try to have at least a taster size (4-5oz) to give a beer a fair shake, but if a beer sucks, there's no way I'm putting myself though more than 2 sips just so I can feel justified checking it in. And if I can only get through 2 sips, I'm checking that **** in just so I can remember to never have it again. But I could give two ***** about how anyone else uses the app or what their personal "check-in requirements" are.

Let's be totally honest though, most of us still thought Liz was an imaginary friend of Chad's until we met her in real life.

I like it to keep track of what I've had and a sip counts as a check in as far as I'm concerned. I also love how all these pussy brewers whine about bad ratings and try to say everyone has no idea what they're talking about. Try not making ****** beers and the ratings will generally be pretty positive.
