It will be interesting to see where the whole Private Equity thing goes. Those guys will sell off as soon as they think they've maximized their returns. They are in the business of making money, not beer.

At least if you sell to AB InBev, you're probably not going to be sold again (although, you might just be killed off eventually). I could envision a scenario where the PE guys spin off their brewery operations in an IPO, only to then be gobbled up by AB InBev or others down the line.

Yeah, PE is definitely not a safer path. It potentially has some advantages v. a public company, but not necessarily.

Also, why do all these brewers think selling off their companies is better than taking on debt for a one-time expansion? Debt is a lot easier to deal with than not owning your company.

Agreed. Debt is also usually cheaper than equity.

Is there something about the brewing industry that scare off lenders?

Maybe, though I believe Sierra has basically done all its expansion through a combination of loans and its own revenue, so it's far from unprecedented. Lagunitas did as well, up until the recent deal with Heineken. Maybe it's just business people who want to make beer and not run a business -- or don't realize that equity is much more valuable than the cash they pay back on debt.

Maybe they're tired of running the brewery and just want a giant pile of cash?
Who can blame them after Huna 2014? It's going to be interesting to see what the equity group does with their portfolio.
I'm ready for the "craft beer revolution" to end. Maybe people will go back to not giving a **** about beer and I'll be able to get Cantillon off the shelf again.

It sure would be nice, but it seems like too many people are treating beer like magic cards for that to ever completely happen.

The way it's going right now, craft beer is quickly becoming a drinkable version of Beanie Babies. ISO:FT groups on FB are doing **** like trading Hawaiian vacations, glass bongs, and furniture for beer. I'm surprised there hasn't yet been a beer version of this pic yet:

Don't disagree, but this then implies that they are all lying through their teeth when they talk about the "best way forward" and whatnot.
I wouldn't say lying, I would say rationalizing.

Is that a divorced couple splitting up their beanie baby collection in a courthouse?

How many Cherry Ryes, Backyards and over the hill BCBCS bottles for a Hawaiian vacation?
The person was ISO a CCK. Offered airfare to and from hawaii and a seat at a CC vertical tasting. I dont remember if they were also offering accommodations

FT: 1.5 ounces of properly stored Vanilla Rye

ISO: Someone to mow my lawn

Breh that's a little high. At current secondary market price for VR and what my lawn dude charges me, I should be able to have him mow/trim/blow my yard 6.4 times. That's more like 3.5 ounces. You're trying to rip people off.
