I just got a 6 pack of Union Jack IPA dated less than a month ago. And I’m as excited about this beer purchase than any hyped can beer or hazebro IPA I could possibly find.

And I also realized as I was typing, that I am becoming the equivalent of those old BA members who would complain about the lack of a “firm malt backbone” in West Coast IPAs. I am now that guy.

Union Jack still whips ass though.
Love Union Jack, would definitely buy it if it was available. My IPA is sort of based on that one: Centennial, Citra, Cascade, and Simcoe for a classic West Coast style.

At a small local cask festival. A group of 4 55+ old people just walked in wearing pretzel necklaces. Beer in 2018 is going to be weird.

My parents are in their early 60s and have been doing that for years.

Yeah I'm kinda failing to see what the beef with this scenario is. I can almost guarantee that I'd prefer the company/conversation of those folks to about 90% of the typical attendants at craft beer fests these days.

I, too, am also failing to see what the beef is in my scenario.

Say whatever you will about Wakefield, but the guy puts on a really good beer festival. Wakefest this weekend was maybe the best fest I've been to, all-around (beer, food, logistics, bathrooms, etc.). And what was really encouraging is that they identified the biggest issues from last year (entry and exit procedure, bathroom situation) and had them totally fixed up.

I'll just go ahead and get this out of the way...

J. Wakefield is easily the best festivaler in the world. There's honestly no one else remotely in his class, in my estimation. These festivals are so much better than anything else I've festivaled, in their styles, and this is true across so many different types of festival. It's just unbelievable the degree to which I enjoy these festival more than other representations of the same style. I don't say this lightly either. It would be convenient if I didn't need to drive a thousand miles for my favorite festival, but that's just the reality of the situation.

After FSW launched here I was buying Union Jack a lot. Unfortunately after things cooled a bit, it began to sit....

Now you can only find 6-8 month old cans all over shelves... if you're lucky. *the sadness*

******* waiting on Fed Ex sucks. Took today off, the wife is doing a photo shoot for keef and his lady. I’m thirsty and want to crush Kolsch.

Edit: oh hey, jivex5k, I’m bringing him a couple bottles and he’s going to go to the brewery and fill some Crowlers and get you out a box for the Woodland Contest. I didn’t forget ya homie. It’s finally warm enough to ship, at least for the time being.

Is BC not good now or something? I haven't even seen a bottle around me. Unless this year's batch tanked, I'd be a buyer at $8.99 all day everyday.
I've liked it less and less with each passing year. I don't think it's my palate changing or anything (I still love Eclipse) but rather that the quality is getting worse. It's too bad, I was looking forward to having it around all the time, but I probably won't even bother getting any next year. It doesn't help that they've jacked up the price so much with those stupid bottles.

its taste declined 94% at the announcement of the AB acquisition of Goose Island

same ingredients, same glass, same brewers. you decide.

Actually a lot of people quit to go work elsewhere after the acquisition. Aside from Laffler going to form Off Color, it happened right when Lagunitas opened up their Chicago space, so a bunch of Goose employees jumped to Lagunitas. A few of the brewers are the same, Brett Porter, obviously, but... I have one of the original Fulton and Wood posters with the brewers behind it on the poster, and neither worked for Goose by the time the beer was even released.

A lot of the bottle shops in Seattle and the surrounding area no longer sell ABInBev products, so the distributors had to find other places to dump their bottles, like Safeway, WinCo and Costco.

Personally, I see no reason to buy BCBS when I have access to Fremont and other local breweries' barrel aged products.
